And it has nearly every digital out possible. I also really liked the fact I could use any remote with it.
And I like the separate dual temperature controlled Femto clocks. Galvanic isolation, etc etc. if I had the money I’d upgrade to the G2.1 but I just bought Mscaler and Cables.
This is not an auralic forum
Just a reminder.
Hong Kong lacks political stability
Therefore companies based there may be subject to that political risk
Bedsides Auralics prices are hardly attractive and cost more than Naim
I’d rather buy British made in Wiltshire
I didn’t know this was Analogmusic’s web site.
And if Naim made a streamer with out a Dac, with reliable WiFi. I’d consider it. But the NDX 2 is almost $8000. US not including the extra obligatory power supply. And it has an on board Dac for planned obsolescence. I’m a fan of streamers without Dac’s since streamers should have a longer product life span.
FYI: I’m an American. I buy American made, Uk made, Chinese made gear. I work hard for my $$$ and country of origin isn’t my deciding factor. I even pay more for some UK stuff… but I’m certainly not xenophobic
Auralic make some very nice products. Naim do too. Good to be able to choose products that best suit our needs and ears.
And shoebox form size (half width Uniti shape) with SFP module so you can choose from standard or optical ethernet connections.
How British are Naim products. Made in Britain, assembled in Britain or other.
I have an Ndac which contains a sticker, with what looks very like Chinese symbols on it. The new Atom headphone amps PCB has a couple stickers that look identical to the sticker in the Ndac.
FC, when the Covid situation improves and factory visits can resume, you can arrange to go and see them being built at the factory in Salisbury. Of course many electronic components used inside electronics - even high end electronics hand made in Salisbury - are made in China these days, and even some surface mount chip sets too, but the vast majority of everything that makes up the final item is done in Salisbury
I wasn’t aware that you had become the Moderator…
Guys, now that I have the ND5XS2 in place as my streamer, my Laptop has been removed from duty. I was wondering if it can be used as a ROON NUC, or whatever it is you need to try out ROON. I really do not want to spend any money on a NUC, but would like to see what all the fuss is about ROON, since my ND5 is an endpoint, I believe.
Is there a free trial for ROON?, and how easy is it to get up and running? Is it even worth the hassle, I find the Naim App to work fine.
Quite right. This is the Chord forum.
I think it is the DACs that have a longer life span. Get a DAC that does its job right and sounds good, and it will be the same in 10 years time. A streamer without a DAC playing music from your own store likewise, but streaming online needs frequent updates to keep up with changing providers and their changing services. But I wholehertedly agree that separation is best - as well as enabling it to keep up with online streaming services without unnecessarily changing the DAC, it facilitates good separation of the two which may help maximise sound quality.
if you have a large collection of ripped CD, and enjoy the experience of the room APP, maybe it’s worth the trial
I hardly used it during the trial and will not be paying for it.
It brings no improvement in SQ.
I have 2 LG OLED Tv’s and really like them. No issues at all.
you have stated a streamer is nothing more than a computer.
that’s where you are wrong. You do not need an obligatory power supply for NDX2. I never suggested the NDX2 as a digital output only streamer. When the ND5XS2 (and NDX2) are used in digital output mode, the analog boards and DAC are powered down.
making an audiophile quality streamer needs a lot of knowledge of digital audio, something Naim gained from their long experience of making CD players decades ago, and there is a lot of audio engineering and art involved.
If indeed you think it’s only a computer, then the auralic is a very expensive computer.
Take a look yourself at the pictures of auralic G1
Oh not that again, internal pictures to justify your blinkered view, again? Give it a rest, you like what you like and others are free to like what they like
the pictures cannot be denied.
First please don’t put words in my mouth what I said was “ Does Naim have decades of experience building Streaming devices, which are as much computers, I don’t think so.“
Why does a successful young Chinese company get you so riled up, if it was DCS, or Linn would you be as agitated? I think not.
No.
The pictures are self explanatory. The green dual power supplies on the Auralic, which can be bought on eBay… Are these the quality as the one Naim uses ?
The single board, which cant be that expensive, and all the empty space? And why a single board ?
I expected to see decoupling of the noisy boards from the digital outputs? Not visible
let’s not talk about the auralic software which has no chrome cast, no tidal connect, no deezer…no amazon music.
Naim DCS and Linn know that if they charge for half empty boxes with lower quality power supplies and a single board they will be also heavily criticized
In the end its about the performance/Price. The price of the auralics is just too much. They need to give much more for their asking price
I had them in my home, tested them and give my feedback
That’s why I have no issues buying my 2 LG Oled
I don’t feel cheated buying LG Oled TV
