Maybe, hey did you read Nick’s post about using 24 bit and outputting through dual BNC’s sounding better than USB…aren’t you using USB?
I’m using USB from the opticalRendu. I have HQPlayer setup on a headless unit in the network room and it plays to the HQPlayer NAA on the oR then into the TT2. As Nick mentioned, just setting HQP to passthrough. That way I benefit from the optical network and LPS’s on the switches + oR.
The TQ Silver Diamond USB is also really good and won’t be changing that.
You need to go to the Audiowise website and order an SRC DX USB to DX bridge. Just a 3 hour drive for me to grab one if i get the conversion working.
It’s an interesting looking system but I’m not looking to add any additional boxes to my listening room. HQP allowed me to drop my box count there to 1x LPS - oR - TT2 - Etude and that’s it. Smaller boxes and minimal cables.
Music servers and upscaling are all done well away from my listening gear. The plug count in my listening room was getting out of hand before with all the network, servers and upscaling in the same room
Sure - you do need to match systems carefully. Dave requires a very fast amp to sound natural and naturally warm - otherwise it can sound a bit forward and lean. The Chord amps such as the Etude do sound wonderful with Dave.
In my humble opinion, the TT2 is more rounded and slightly less revolving - and I suspect has a lesser transient response. For me the TT2 sounded preferable to Dave on my Naim 552/250 system… but give it a Chord amp and it’s very much different in my opinion.
To my ears there is a level of detail and timbre definition that Dave provides that is notably absent on the TT2. Does it detract from the TT2? No - because you wouldn’t miss it if you didn’t know it was there
But going from a Dave to TT2 is a painful proposition if you have a suitably matched system.
But as always careful system matching is required - the old adage of source first etc - simply doesn’t work in the high end / high performance world. Technology and performance has moved on…
Hi Simon,
The Nimak are better than the supplied BNCs, I thought the WAVE cables were as well - but being a tight bugger I decided to take a more financially balanced position. Nimak -vs- Wave? Good question. However, the WAVE spdif was better than the Nimak.
The best digital cable I have used in my system is the Clear Cut Palladium Spdif, sold as the Audio Note Black I think. Superb, and ridiculously expensive.
I got the Nimak in response to hearing this as I thought it got me 85% of the way to the CC Palladium cable for 7.5% of the outlay.

The other unintended consequence of using PGGB 24bit output is that the file sizes are about 25% smaller than 32bit.
PGGB can be set to output wavpack wv files which is about half size with not much sound quality loss but not many players recognise the wv files.
My preferred PGGB output sound quality order with best at top and with quite big jumps in between is :-
- 24bit using MPD or Innuos 2.0 to usb to AudioWise SRC-DX dual bnc to Chord dac
- 32bit using MPD or Innuos 2.0 with usb to Chord dac
- 32bit using HQP+NAA on pass through with usb to Chord dac
- 32bit using Roon with usb to Chord dac
One can of course use HQP on pass through with 1) but remember to set HQP to output 24bit as well as PGGB.
Many of us who already have quite fast computers are happy to process test albums for people and then send them back using WeTransfer. Just ask. I know from experience that trying to use an underpowered computer might overheat it and cause the processing to stop mid stream.
I might get around to trying it on the weekend Nick, too busy for the next couple of days. I don’t have HQplayer on my computer, can I just play it with VLC media player or something similar? I also don’t know if I can add a converted file to my Naim Core, and play it with that, or my ND5XS2 somehow? Lots to figure out still for me, but I do like your WeTransfer idea. I also thought about Emailing (Dmance) to see if he can somehow help me converting files if my computer is not up to it…since we both live in Ontario.
Sure, use what you are happy with and sounds best for your system… I suspect my Wave cables will heading to eBay… good job I kept the wooden box.
Listening to my system now after a long day, and Merle Haggard and the Strangers sound superb… and the instruments are all spread into my room… really satisfying and foot tapping
Hi Toon, did you get a chance to convert/listen to any more files you converted? I have read through just about all I can find on the Audiophile Style site, and the remastero website itself, so I will probably give the trial a go on Sunday. Couple of questions though, when you try to download the trial version, I see he wants your email address. Does it email to you, or does it go into Dropbox? I just want to make sure I have my ducks in a row before I start. I think my Dropbox was set up with my old email address, so if he uses that, I may need to change some things.
I read all about how to change virtual memory on his website, so fingers crossed I can figure this out.
@NO-QUARTER I used an email address. On the last tab of the PGGB software there is a hardware code/identifier that you can highlight and copy.
This is emailed to them requesting a trail and they them email back with a licence file. Save this file to a folder.
In the PGGB software you click the “licence” button which will allow you to browse and select the file you saved and that’s it. It will confirm that it is a trial licence in the software and it’s ready to use.
I think the email address is needed for the trial license to be emailed to you and that PGGB itself is a download from the website. Perhaps someone can confirm?
I knew this would be above my skill set. I thought I upgraded to Windows 10 the other night, but I got to a page on the PGGB website about changing my virtual memory and it is telling me I am still on windows 7. I remember seeing somewhere that I was now on Windows 10, but I don’t know where. Is it possible I have two operating systems running? I am lost with this computer crap, I give up.
If you go to the Windows start menu and type “about” [enter], you will see a screen that will tell you which version you are running.
It says Windows 10 Pro, so why did it say Windows 7 when I tried to change virtual memory?
What said It thought you were on Windows 7… can you post a screen shot…
Might be a bug with your PGGB software.
Hi Simon, I took a couple of photos with my IPad, believe it or not I don’t know how to take a screenshot with my laptop. When I hit the change button, the other screen opens up, then I uncheck the automatically manage paging file size for all drives as per the instructions. The window in the big box clearly says C: (Windows 7).
I don’t think this has anything to do with PGGB, because I am just in the startup menu of the computer ?
Here is another photo of what I see when I type in “about” in the startup menu, clearly showing windows 10 Pro.
Is it possible to have two systems active somehow?
Hi I think you will find that is simply the Volume Label for your primary disc, or the disc where you memory paging file resides - you can usually rename it to what ever you want. Perhaps it was set when Windows 7 was originally setup.
The bottom line you are running Windows 10 from your bottom screen shot - looks all good
Thanks Simon, a guy on Head-fi told me the same thing. I am currently downloading PGGB, so once that is done I think I have to Email them to get a licence #, and I should be able to give it a try. I have a feeling my Laptop will be severely underpowered though.
