Qutest, Hugo TT2, Mscaler

So… the most important questions… black or silver?!? And, when will it arrive?

I thought that was a no-brainer — black, of course… :slightly_smiling_face:

Good choice! Ever since the awful chrome days of the 1970s I have always opted for black where available - much more discreet and subdued.

Ahh… I went black for the TT2 and silver for the M Scaler. I tried to get a ex-demo black but they couldn’t find it so offered me a brand new Silver one for the same price. I took it and given it is a couple shelves below my G1 & TT2, didn’t really matter. Actually quite like it, less obvious, blends in… when the lights are dimmed anyway!

Question (for anyone).

I’m using a wireworld matrix 2 power block with their Stratus 7 cable. Their entry level £100 cable basically.

Currently, I have the Aries G1, TT2 & M Scaler plugged into it. Of course both Chord items are low noise DC supplies. I’ve just ordered Wireworlds Electra 7 power cable. A couple of levels up.

Do I use the better cable on the block (which I would normally do), or use it direct into the Aries G1. I only ask as I’m not sure how much benefit the Chord Power supplies would get from it compared got the Aries G1?!?

I am not familiar with any of those products, so do not really know the answer to that, but I would think the better power cord going from the wall to the block would be the best place. I would spend the money on Wave BNC cables between the Mscaler and TT2 personally. Everyone who uses those report a definite upgrade to their sound right away.

Cheers…I’d bought 3 power cables at a discount last month and given I only now need one I decided to return them. I couldn’t return 2 as they were a bundle discount. So, this is just a case of getting back to where I was… I can hear the difference between uprated and stock cables so just want to sort it out. Just didn’t know whether the Chord DC power supplies would benefit from the uprated cable or if it would be better connecting it direct to the Aries.

Not spending crazy money there as I’ll be getting the Wave Cables in the next month or so. I looked at the OPTO-DX but not sure I want all the extra boxes it entails and the minimal footprint of the current system is one of the things that impresses at the moment.

Edit. Question on Headphones for the TT2
Not looking to get any before Nov this year but was wondering what headphones to look at that would compliment the TT2, soundstage and detail etc without going to crazy… given I mainly listen to speakers. This will be when I’m away on hols etc and take the TT2 etc with me and listen to headphones.

Headphones are like speakers — possibly even worse: a very personal choice…

But I think Sennheiser HD800S are cracking with the TT2…

I thought that might be the case. I guess I should’ve asked about manufacture characteristics rather than specific headphones. For instance main differences between Sennheiser, Grado, Focal and Audeze.
Are there any to avoid if you are looking for detail, transparency and soundstage.

I guess once I’ve narrowed it down I can then aim to visit the store that has them so I can try them!

I didn’t spend much time with Grado — poor comfort for my head.

But I compared Sennheiser, Focal and Audeze — and loved the detail and soundstage the Sennheiser produced. Focal Clear were also great, and a bit more forgiving with poor recordings. But just not as impressive as the HD800S. Later I bought Focal Elegia when I wanted a pair of closed back.

My memory of the Audeze is a bit hazy — could also live with these but they didn’t produce the wow moment they Sennheiser delivered. The HD800s just deliver so much detail… Third place for Audeze.

Edit: This comparison was done with a Hugo 2, and I only heard the Sennheiser with the TT2 but that was on two separate occasions.

This is great feedback… really helps in picking out a local shop that has them. Probably won’t be till Oct for when I go away in Nov but will probably try to get a listen of one earlier if I can.

I am enjoying my Audeze LCD-3’s with mine

Excellent… another added to the list. I read somewhere that some had problems with QC of this model and that there was a bit of variation between sets. I presume you didn’t have any problems?

None at all.

Well I will be using my Meze Empyreans (with Meze silver plated connectors) with a TT2 when it arrives… though a bit of a backlog and wait from Chord.
Others also rate it as a really good match over at Headfi…

Good stuff… that takes the list to 3 now.

Did they give you any idea how long they’re going to make you wait?!? Hopefully not too long.

About 3 to 4 weeks left now

Not too bad then. When I was looking for the m scaler, I was told by one retailer it would take 5 weeks. That was before I found the one I ended up with.

It seems they have a lot of catching up with the TT2 and M Scalers because of Covid 19!

Well I understand their production was not stalled through Covid 19, but there have been issues with some of their component suppliers… particularly the aluminium casing.

And they remind me of my old Kudos C20’s in terms of sound.

Guess it’s to be expected really. There seems to be a few kicking around… Fanthorpes I think but I guess you’ll have a good deal at your current place.

I know one dealer relatively near by so they’ll be easy to demo when the time comes!
