Updated to 4.4.1 on two Muso 2 yesterday.
I use Plexamp and Plex Media server to cast my local music … using Chromecast (I realise that airplay 2 is an option but it’s UX isn’t great)
I’ve now lost the multi room (“groups” in google home) facility
The muso 2 are work fine individually- but cannot connect into a group ( they are visible and selectable … but “cannot communicate with Google”)
I’ve had the before and managed a work around by completely “removing” each device from Google home and rejoining from scratch.
This seems impossible on the latest version of google home … remove simply leaves the device registered as “local”
Anyone else got this problem ?
Anyone solved it ??
Ps I’ve used both in ios and android devices as home clients
But note - I had the issue with my Muso before I updated (at least that’s what I recall). And I’m also pretty sure I tested my Nova before this morning and the gear icon was there.
EDIT - Curiouser and curiouser. I had been using my iPhone 15. But just now, when I tried the same with my iPad 9 I had the option to “Add to a room.” I did that and the gear icon is back! And I have the option of including my Nova in a group.
I do have the settings cog (as you too have) for each Muso 2 speaker.
After clicking on settings, I hit “remove device” but that simply takes the “room” association off the muso 2 leaving it as a “local” device . As a “local” device you can’t see said device(speaker) as an option to add it into a group.
It’s impossible to tell where the root cause lies … is it the muso 2 version 4.4.1 OR Google Home OR both since they both inherit the new Google for cast audio 2 kernel …. Hmmm …
I’m loathe to do a factory reset … but may have to try it since I’ve exhausted all (many many) combinations of phone/tablet and speaker !!
Ps … other speakers which in Google home show as Cast firmware version 1.52.272222 (against the updated Muso 2 version 1.56.310669) work fine in being available for, and successfully joining, any group)
Once you have moved them to the local devices section, can you move them to a Google room again? And if so, I assume you still can’t include them in a group.
I’ve reached the conclusion that Naim products and Chromecast are an unstable combination. They CAN work together, but I keep encountering strange issues, one after another, and, as you say, it’s not even clear what software/hardware is causing them. By the way, I’ve also been in touch with Google support on some of them.
I have several ChromeCast Audio pucks and have not had similar problems. And recently I bought a Wiim Pro Streamer, which has also worked well with Chromecast to date. (Note - I don’t use the Group feature.)
I’d try the reset. It worked for my Muso (although not for my Nova).
You guessed it on the reassignment of the speaker to a room … no joy
Currently I’ve fallen back to AirPlay 2.
I do hope Naim resolve their bugs around Chromecast. There’s clear a market there (especially around Plex users) and Google are clearly working away on Chromecast (even though Google Home is pretty shocking as a piece of widely used (?) software … when you compare the Android and iOS versions there are so many differences you’d think there were two dev teams … !!)
Thanks for all your feedback.
I will give the reset a whirl once we’re past the critical few days ahead … when the music “system” is key!
So I’ve taken the leap… and reset both Muso 2.
As they come back to life (with current 4.4.1 firmware) there’s a visible handshake with Chromecast … and “lo and behold” both speakers are now fully available to Google Home and they’re now back in the groups they had previously occupied !!
All is well that ends well … but why a firmware update warrants a reset I do not understand?!
As I said above, and I think you may agree, right now Naim and Chromecast together are unstable. If you hunt around this forum, you’ll discover other bugs I’ve run into. At the moment, some have gone away, and I have workarounds for others. And my Muso 2, which is the primary Naim device where I use Chromecast, gives me fewer problems than my Nova.
As for my iPhone/iPad disparity with regard to Google Home, I just discovered that Apple released iOS 18.2 (with 18.2.1 in the wings). I will download 18.2 tonight and see how that affects things.
Well it did - it made things worse. I updated my iPad first and lost the “Add to a Room” button on there as well. I still have it on an older iPhone (which I will not update). But this is ridiculous.
Chromecast is strange and the support from google online is uggly. For a short while some years back I used a chormecast Audio Great when is worked and terrible when it did not. First rule was always to powerdown everything e especially the router. If the router was not powered down non of the very vague support suggestions from Google would ever work. After a total powerdown the chromecast would aventually work for some time. But forget all the workarounds in the google home iOS apps they never worked anyway.
Currently I only have one chromecast device so no way to test your frustrations.

I’ve had several ChromeCast Audio pucks that have worked well. And so far, my Wiim has done well (touch wood) It’s really only the Naim devices that give me problems.
I’ve also had success with LMS and the ChromeCast plug-in. At least after teething pains.
