Radio Listening Data Update

Its been a while since I’ve posted Radio Listening Data for UK.
Any 'ol 'howz, 'er’be the latest RAJAR Q2 2025 changes compared to my last post for Q2 2022 - Share Via Platform (%)

Q2 2022 to Q2 2025 changes as a % of listening
FM . . . . . . . . . . 32.4 - 26.6
Total Digital . . 67.6 - 73.4
DAB . . . . . . . . . 40.8 - 41.8
DTV . . . . . . . . . 4.5 - 2.3
Total On-Line . 22.3 - 29.3
Web Apps . . . . 11.5 - 10.9
Smart Speaker . 10.8 - 18.4

It appears radio listening is shifting from terrestrial toward digital platforms such as Online Streaming and Smart Speakers.

DAB (DAB+) is the most popular of all the platforms, but Smart speakers are increasingly becoming the default device for listening at home. Deeper diving into the data for Smart Speaker shows that whilst it reports 18% as an overall number, the figure is 26% for at-home listening.

So what’s the future for uz’ ol’ codgers with our NAT’s and Ron Smith bird perch’s …. I guess we must get used to web radio for home listening, not too sure about car/truck travel.
Whatever it looks like we must hang on until 2030 and the next rounds of the politicians (bless’em) re-starting the planning (again) to switch off our FM radio.

I fear with BBC promoting their Sounds platform streaming will dominate and DAB will decline. As for FM unless there is investment in the transmitters (and relay stations?) it will also decline. Sad prognosis - I hope my R/S aerial survives until the end.
