Radio Paradise FLAC........and ALAC

HN, not sure about the BBC entries – are these the most current URLs?

For JB Radio2 I don’t think your syntax is quite right. The “*:L16” part you have in the square brackets as part of the station ID is actually a transcode specification you would enter using MinimWatch. Try the following which works for me:

#EXTINF:-1,[JBRadio2;flac] JB Radio2
http://199.189.87.9:10999/flac

For the BBC stations see the following page:

https://minimradio.com/

It appears MinimStreamer needs more hints as to the stream format than you are providing. There is a sample download for all the HLS BBC stations on that page – you can see that the stations are listed as follows:

#EXTINF:-1,[R4;aac,48000] BBC Radio 4 FM
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_fourfm.m3u8

I wondered that, whether it was a valid format selector or just a optional selection to display in the Naim app when playing. Thanks.

Ah. Thanks for this.

The JB Radio2 entry I found on a forum - the poster had tried a few variations but ended his post with a half finished sentence that specifically required *.L16 to be in the tag.

I’ll give that and your BBC suggestions a go in a while, busy for now.

Thanks.

Sorry, the link above contains information for playing BBC stations on an internet radio. There is a specific page for playing streams on Naim streamers:

https://minimstreamer.com/naim/bbcradio.html

That’s where I started, with that file. Nothing except for a brief half second burst of BBC R2.

That appears to be for the BBC HLS streams, which Naim streamers support natively from their iRadio input, so I’m not sure why you would want to use Minimserver?

I tried the BBC Radio DASH sample file and it didn’t work until the stream is transcoded as is documented. So, use the DASH file sample as your starting point and in MinimWatch open the properties dialog. Click the System tab and in the stream.transcode field enter “*:L16” (without the quotes). All working here OK.

You must make sure you have ffmpeg installed to transcode AAC as described here:

https://minimstreamer.com/userguide.html#Stream%20converter%20program

(Note that this isn’t necessary to transcode FLAC, so this isn’t needed for the FP and JBRadio FLAC streams).
Note that the *:L16 transcode specification means “transcode everything to 16-bit signed LPCM” – if you only want to transcode AAC, you can use the format aac:L16.

Or, as Chris says, just use the native support for the BBC streams on the iRadio input! Chris, I thought the same as you but just wanted to show HouseholdNaim it was possible to get this working. I’m only using MinimStreamer for the RP FLAC stream here.

Thanks for the extra info there.

The point was to get it to work with R Paradise and JB Radio2, the assumption being that getting it going with BBC streams would prove that it works as a baseline then extend it to include others.

OK, ignore the BBC stuff then.

As you can see, it’s a lot easier to add FLAC streams like RP.

Nope, didn’t work in Asset (using Adrian’s ‘code’ in a playlist). Hopefully Naim are working on this somewhere!

Is there a reasonably straightforward way for me to use the RP FLAC urls/streams with my SU/QNAP arrangement? I think the HD browser option in the QNAP requires I use a HDMI cable, not sure though. I could run a HDMI into my Sony Bravia which is connected to the SU with fiber optic but that doesn’t seem like an ideal solution. I have an apple TV into the Bravia as well but have never liked that SQ.

Hi

IIRC Apple TV runs Radio Paradise flac stream using the RP app so you run that through TV

Thanks, just downloaded it.

This is an interesting experiment.

iRadio/320K
AppleTV/HDMI/Optical/Digital Input/ALAC

Edit - Okay not that interesting, iRadio is still better.

It’s too bad we can’t get ALAC through iRadio.

I tried this, but it does not work. I have Uniti 1st gen, is that a problem?

Gavin, the playlist definition given above is specific to MinimStreamer so it definitely won’t work as is with Asset. I’m not familiar with adding custom stations with Asset, perhaps somebody more familiar with can help.

Not sure, perhaps it’s a limitation of the first gen streaming boards. You did also set up the transcoding in MinimWatch? That is essential to getting it working.

Thanks, switching transcoding on did the trick.

Hi

We’ve sorted out the issues on our FLAC stream encoder, and these URLs should work fine now — bandwidth permitting, of course.

Main Mix: http://stream.radioparadise.com/flac
Mellow Mix: http://stream.radioparadise.com/mellow-flac

Will work in Roon but not iradio etc

Enjoy

These links currently do not currently include stream metadata (song title info). Not our choice. We would if we could.

FLAC playback is only supported by some players. If your player requires you to go through TuneIn or vTuner to add stations, then our links will not work. They will also not work in iTunes. Player limitations like those are entirely out of our hands.

You can post questions and feedback about the FLAC streams in this forum topic.
