Railway Modelling

Hi mate thanks for replying with a great view into your past journey into railway modelling. I hope I didn’t mislead you when I mentioned N gauge as my layout is OO my big problem is I only get 1 day a week to work on it but once the electrics are done and tested I can start the second layer tracks and then the scenery. You should get back into it once you get that feeling of achievement it keeps driving you onward. If you are not sure about a full layout why not start with a diorama then you will no which way you want to go. But which ever way you go good luck and keep in touch and I will keep you posted

Cheers mate, that’s much appreciated, I’ve said elsewhere that this forum is a brilliant place to be part of.
I will build something, infact I need to build something and it’s people like yourself that have actually started provide inspiration for others, Thank you :+1:

Some of the Brawa and Kadee rolling stock.

If you get a feeling of excitement when you see them in the cupboard imagine how you would feel seeing them running on a layout you know it makes sense

And that’s not all of it, there’s the Japanese N Gauge and my fathers N gauge collection….

I have both collectors and hoarders envy. My stash was mostly tin plate O gauge of just about all LNER from the beginning of Hornby plus a few bits of OO and N gauge A4’s in all liveries. The oddballs were a Triang collection of Transcontinental diesels after my first Christmas present of a train set. I still have that, but the many colours and lining/lettering types produced across the world I let go. I think it became an obsession

Goodness, you railway modellers lot are even worse than us camera/HiFi/Lego lot when it comes to GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)……  .

And long may it continue! I do watch Simon’s videos every week, and am astonished by the amazing stuff being produced by folks with (I assume) 3D printers….probably in their sheds…..

Kudos to everyone.

I know where you’re coming come, the OO was supposed to be just BR Southern Region, but I have a soft spot for Gresley A3’s and A4’s especially the LNER Silver Grey livery, adding one to the collection won’t spoil things would it….however that was followed by one in Garter Blue and 8 more in late crest BR green, totally bonkers if I’m honest, it’s time they were moved on for someone else to enjoy them.

@Cmax nice stash, I was under the impression that you had already had a set up, be cool too see some pics of that stash going around a layout,

I do appreciate a model railway,

Unfortunately, no, I don’t have a set up at home, It’s just never happened, :man_shrugging: just the acquisition of stock for projects that, if I’m been really honest will never see the light of day. I need to bite the bullet and consentrate on the 7mm models and offload the rest.

Seeing @Angelinterceptor progressing on his layout, is brilliant to see, he’s creating a layout that will give him hours of enjoyment.

Hi mate thanks for the mention mate but I have to say I may get some fun once it’s up and running but I have had hours of fun building and planning the layout. I have been reading a lot about model railways but once I got started the bug bit more and each achievement feels good. So cmax I think you should bite the bullet and go for it I promise you will not regret it

The last time I did it (for someone else) that was where the fun was - designing, building in the features, trying to plan in 3 dimensions and the wiring. Scenery is somewhat down to how much time and inclination I will have.

I kept the wiring simple and DC based but next time (if there is one!) it will be DCC.

On my to do list is a trip to the Minatur Wunderland in Hamburg. For inspiration. I do watch the Heaton Lodge videos - I cannot believe how much gets done.
