I posted a few photo’s and @CalamityJack mentioned that Heaton was on You Tube, here’s a behind the scenes look and logistics involved when it attended its first outing.
As well as watching videos, another great source of inspiration is from magazines this comes highly recommended for the steam era.

Same here for my 1974-1982 Razzle mags (can anyone guess what year I met my wife?)

On the Things I’ve done In the last 24 hours thread, @badger1963 took a trip on the Shinkansen,
I don’t have a model of any Shinkansen stock, but I have the above, why pure indulgence on my part.
You could build a Japanese loco depot in a boxfile with N gauge stock…
steve
Thats good call, like that idea
Those Kato locomotives look exquisite, especially the Cassiopeia. The depot idea sounds better than them staying in the jewel cases which is where most of my N stuff is while I decide what to do with them. (And probably order a pair of glasses I can actually see them with!)
Kato models are beautiful, run like Swiss watches and deserve to be used, not stuck in jewel boxes, and were all bought on whim, after watching Japanese model railway YouTube video’s.
@PaperPlane’s depot idea is quite a good idea, seen a Japanese outline steam depot modeled , but never an electric one.
I’m intrigued about your N stuff, photo’s please! and have you made it back to an exhibition yet?
Gary
I made it to the Abingdon show the other week. Some wonderful exhibits and it’s impossible to single out any particular layout because of the care and ingenuity in them but I did like Dawn Quest’s ‘Ladykillers’ set up, the ‘Brief Encounter’ one done in monochrome (ie black and white!) Penzance in N-scale and Bath Green Park which was on a huge scale.
My own N stuff is in boxes, within other boxes, within storage cupboards but I did start trying to catalogue it. So, for now it mostly looks like the picture below. There’s a strongly 1990s Canadian flavour to it.
Very nice, Atlas too, impressed, glad you managed to attend the Abingdon show, not seen the Lady killers layout, but have seen both Penzance and Bath Green Park, both spectacular layouts.
I’ve got to get something running…
Gary, I have just looked at some vids on YouTube about Kato N gauge. The attention to, and levels of, detail on their stuff is just insane! If I had the space and money I would definitely build myself a Kato layout…
I’m glad the thread has got people looking at what models are available out there, I’m a bit short of time at the moment, but will set something up over the weekend, I want to see them running myself now.
You don’t need a lot of space Kev!
Gary
I have a friend who runs a model shop and is a Kato track dealer…
steve
I also think that when I bought my Atlas stuff all that time past, it was manufactured by Kato. I don’t believe it is still the case today. I have hundreds of Microtrains, Intermountain, Red Caboose and LBF wagons to keep this stuff company if I ever move forward. I used to visit North America frequently for business or holiday and bring back souvenirs! At the FX rates at the time it worked out well.
I do have some Fleischmann/Roco/Minitrix European outline stuff. I’d embarked on that route before jumping oceans.
Thats interesting…The only one I know near by is Trax in York.
Gary
We share similar interests, I too have models from Fleischman, Roco, Minitrix in N, Brawa, Roco, Atlas, Athearn and Kadee in HO, and in OO Hornby, Bachmann.
Gary
Selby. My mate Nick runs the shop and his dad helps out.
Nick will be at the Howden show on 29/30 March.

Well I’ve learnt something there, will have to investigate.
Cheers Steve.
I’m not even interested in buying anything but spent 20 minutes going through all menus.
Thanks for posting.
