Random loud popping sounds on Naim Uniti Atom 😲

Random very Loud popping crack like sound on Naim Atom during playback anyone familiar with this issue

Hi,

I was listening to my Naim atom via Bluetooth and suddenly hear a very loud popping sound and almost crapped myself and it only happens once every hour or so ..I’m wondering if it’s the capacitors or something else ? Also can this damage my speakers ?

Please help guys as I miss this beauty :trophy:

Have you considered what else might be firing up on your mains circuits?

Strangely it doesn’t happen on my other amplifiers but maybe naim equipment is sensitive to interference from maybe fridges etc

Gemini says its likely to be mains power issue - DC spike, a grounding issue, or component failure in the Atom. Try sources other than bluetooth, or trying the Atom in a completely different location if possible….but seeing as you mention the sound is very loud, I would advise caution as there is potential to damage the speakers.

As other amps don’t make this noise, it suggests a problem with the Atom. Is it very new or very old? Did you buy it second hand at a suspiciously low price?

I would call Naim support and get their advice.

Check the mains lead, socket and other connections too.

Is the noise only when using Bluetooth, or using other sources as well?

Thanks for your helpful information :clinking_glasses: I bought it secondhand few months ago for £1200 but only used it a few times and it only started popping recently ..

I have only used it via Bluetooth but yes I will try it using lossless on a usb stick tonite and also try another lead if that doesn’t help I’ll move it to another room ..thanks :clinking_glasses:

Will later today and thanks :100:

My Superline was sensitive to EMP from my very old bathroom fan. When my wife showered in the evening I’d hear a loud pop through the speakers when the bathroom fan went on/off. That was true even after I had electricians install a new sub-panel with a separate ground, and a dedicated circuit for just the hifi. Oddly, after I replaced the Superline with my Boulder phono-stage the problem disappeared completely, and has never been an issue since…not once.
