I have an Olive Hi Cap that I don’t believe has ever been serviced/recapped.
What is involved in a recap, as in what parts are generally always replaced? I’ve emailed a pair of Naim dealers here in Canada but no response.

Hi, I just recapped ma 555ps, basically they changed all the capacitors.
Hi, I had a CB Hi-Cap services in 2022. Yhe job sheet read:
Service:
Replaced tants and reservoir capacitors.
Fitted new switch.
Replaced fascia label.
Tested ok.
I do not think the switch and fascia label are standard but I was not charged extra for them and it is nice to know that everything required to bring the Hi-Cap back to prime condition was done.
Strictly speaking, a recap is replacement of all the electrolytic capacitors and tantalum capacitors if they measure outside of range. But with Naim there are other servicing elements to the job which vary. It could involve replacing degraded or oxidizing internal wiring, corroded connectors etc.
Though there is more to it than that also. Where things go in a signal path components may be graded and paired before selected to be swapped in.
In other words, you send the unit off and pay the recap book price. But the worksheet of stuff done might not be the same for two identical HiCaps if one has more problems than the other.
Specifically the 2 big electrolytics will get changed and the tants in the regulators.
As others have said, a re cap is just that, and should be considered a sub set of a service.
A service will bring the hicap back to the designed performance.
Was this at Salisbury or somewhere else?
So who would do the servicing in Canada? There does not seem to be an active distributor here any longer. In the past, I believe Dimex was responsible.
And this is the issue for those where naim servicing is not well supported. A change out of caps like for like is all can do. A straight forward job for somebody that repairs audio equipment.
Focal Naim North America is located in Canada.
Here’s the contact info for you;

IIRC Michel Rousseau handles the servicing.
Focal/Naim N.America is very competent. It may take awhile since they close for the holidays.
I emailed them a week and a half ago. No reply yet
To be fair, servicing an Olive HC can’t be hard. Two electrolytics and the tantalum capacitors in the regulator. Yes, some checking perhaps of the switch and, if you are lucky, IR the transformer. Some tests to confirm the quality of workmanship and some new rubber feet.
I do genuinely applaud those that don’t live in the UK or live where getting older Naim gear is a challenge.
If you don’t get a reply by Jan 6, call Chris West at AVoptions.
I’ll also recommend AVoptions but if I lived in Canada I’d have confidence as well with Focal/Naim North America. Nice to have choices.
My NAIT 3 just returned from recapping by NAIM Canada. The Chicago dealer had arranged the shipping and the whole affair went smoothly with a very reasonable charge. I also got a chance to talk on the phone with their service department and they were very nice and helpful.
I preferred to avoid the shipping so I wrote first to AV Options who are situated not far from where I live to schedule a service. I never received any reply from them. Later I learned through another forum member that they do not service the NAIT 3 any longer.
@Thegreatroberto Sorry for the delay in responding and a happy christmas to you and your family.
Yes all the servicing was carried out by Naim at Salisbury via my dealer. I think we in the UK are fortunate with the support we get from our Naim dealers and Naim themselves.
