I’ve I question about recapping my Nait 2. It was done in 1996 by Latham in the Netherlands. After 30 years it needs to be done now. I went to my dealer and was told that maybe buy a new secondhand Supernait 2 would be a better option. Then invest in a newer amp. When servicing the (round) transformer can’t be replaced? (so not every component can be replaced) What’s your opinion? Thanks!
I think it’s well worth doing. I’ve had my own CB NAIT2 serviced by Naim twice in my ownership and the result is still an amp whose performance belies its modest size.
The toroidal transformer should not need replacing during a service. Latham Audio will receive a kit of parts from Naim and AFAIK should be up to do the job.

Ditto - Recap!
AV Options in the US does something of an “ultimate recap” of the Nait 2 (using some non-Naim-specified parts) and it has received glowing reviews in The Absolute Sound. If you like the sound and it’s sufficient to your needs in terms of inputs and power there’s absolutely no reason not to have it brought back up to fighting condition.

I have a NAIT 2 in my dining room, which I sometimes drop into my main system to play tricks on my audio buddies… it just sounds too good to emanate from that shoe-box.
I wonder if the person at the naim dealer had ever seen or heard a Nait 2 ? - mine is now approaching 36yrs old and still sounds fabulously capable next to my 72/HC/250 at low volumes below the 8oclock position.

A SN2 is more powerfull, but does it sound better than a fresh Nait 2 ?

Indeed. While the Supernait is certainly better, it’s a matter of cost performance. If someone already has a Nait2, then the cost of recapping that is reasonable whereas the cost of a secondhand SN is significantly more. More than is warranted by the increase in quality I suppose.
So while it may be an upgrade, I doubt it’s a cost effective one unless the OP wishes for greater speaker compatibility. Even then, it’s not like there is a shortage of speakers large and small within the Nait2’s comfort zone, new or vintage.
