Recommend your favourite Record & CD Stores

Dont know if anyone can help - I will be in New York city for a few days soon and was wondering is anyone can recommend any stores which sell audiophile vinyl and ideally SACDs…

I can also recommend the Oxfam shop on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge. If any of you are ever visiting York, there is a nice little 2nd had record store called Earworm in a little alley next to the Chinese Laundry (vintage / second hand clothes shop) on Goodramgate. Map attached.

I used to go along there to Red Rhino Records into the 80s. Had their own record label too. Was similar to Probe in Liverpool. Happy days. Earworm is nice too.

Yeah that one in Stockbridge is good. There is also an Oxfam in Morningside that had a special music department.
I plan on visiting York next month, so that will be on my list of things to do thanks

Best job I ever had, working at Tower. It really was sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll (plus armed robbery, floods, computer malfunctions, mass theft and shoplifting. Everyone was in their teens or early 20s, senior management all under 40, and all almost as irresponsible as the rest of us. some of the stories of what went on and what us young nippers got up to back then would get me banned from this place

Is the documentary still on YouTube? It’s been a while since I’ve seen it - maybe a good weekend watch again.

What a great thread - when I searched for it and clicked, it brought me back to 2021. I thought it was current even though I’ve posted here before.

And I’ve answered my own question on whether there’s any good record stores in Cologne. Moved my post (below) from the ‘What was the last vinyl you bought’ thread to here:

Not a ‘what did I buy’ but more of a ‘where did I buy it’ post. For those that are stomping around Germany for Oktoberfest, I just hit Parallel Schallplatten in Cologne last week. Fantastically organised store with great SH and new vinyl. Lots of jazz / indie / vocal in addition to a big ‘mainstream’ rock & pop section. Prices very reasonable as well.

Was the first time looking for vinyl there and only hit the one store, but definitely worth a visit if you’re in town - on the west side of the city, 2/3 stops on the metro from the cathedral.

(I recall posting something similar in a ‘best record shops’ thread but don’t remember where it was. Will have look and se if it’s active.)

It’s definitely the thrill of finding something you didn’t know you were looking for or finding something you like at a really great price.

In today’s day and age, you can go online any get whatever you want in about 5 clicks. Mindlessly browsing bins in a record or CD shop is something that is getting rarer these days. If you get it, you get it.

Seismic Records in Leamington Spa, a real one man band with the lovely Stu, predominantly vinyl and above “The Neighbourhood” where you can pick up some good food and drinks. Seismic also have a well curated online store, well worth signing up for the weekly releases email.

Bought an Ian Carr Nucleus original in there. Nice shop, glad to hear that it is still going strong !

That glass floor on the 1st floor on the way to the Jazz Dept. used to give me vertigo ! Especially after a couple of pints..
