Rega IO vs Brio MK7

I recall having this discussion with them over lunch at the Rega factory and they didn’t seem keen at the time (admittedly some years back now). It’s very expensive to do right - not just in product development but in software development, partnerships and licensing, ongoing support, tech support, forum/beta support, software updates. If you do it then you have to go all-in like Naim and make the sizeable investment that’s necessary. But if you don’t have to, and business is good, then doing so could risk everything.

Streamers live and die with the quality of software. Plenty of hardware manufacturers out there but if they don’t have a very capable software engineering team invested for the long term … . The most beautiful box is just a door stop without it. I personally like WiiM and their approach.

Me too, nice little entry level and affordable box (Pro +)

By coincidence I got myself an older ND5X, its however much better sounding (as it should)

As do I. the Mini is a great piece of kit for $99. And hopefully when paired with the DAC in the Brio, becomes even better.

Realised late last night that my previously silent io is now depositing some electrical noise onto my speakers.

Sigh.

That’s a bummer; how old is it?

Under a year.

That’s not good

It’s not audible at listening levels but it’s been silent since purchase so I am intrigued as to why now.

…polluted mains supply…

Can’t see why that would start now.

Something has changed somewhere…

Maybe on the local ac circuit?
