Rega Planar 6 RS Feedback & Phono Stage recommendation

Hi all,

I am about to add a turntable to our main system , it would be my secondary source ( I generally stream high res audio). I am considering the Rega Planar 6 RS as primary contender and was wondering if any owners or folks who tried that special edition package have any input or feedback to share. I would also appreciate phono stage recommendations.

Some additional context :

  • home has cats and kids , so the TT needs to be protected from both
  • I primarily listen to classical and electronic music
  • My integrated non Naim amp has balanced inputs and no phone stage

I wasn’t aware P6RS was out in all shops already, not read any owners experience apart from a guy which couldn’t detect much difference between a P8 and P6RS, same cartridge, maybe at a dealer ?

If this is just about the conclusion, P6RS is as good as a P8…?, I can confirm(being a previous P8 owner) it must be good - and way better than standard P6. Good news as P6 was rather close to a P3 (not that this is bad)

Not sure which choice of cartridge preferred?, AOS, the new MC stage would be obvious if no plan of Nd cartridges but Ania Pro or Apheta only ?.

Personally I ran MM/MI and have great experience with either a Naim, Lejonklou or Graham SLee phonostage. Can’t go wrong with any of them.

EDIT: No idea about compatible with balanced input..?

For having had P3/ND5 and ND7, P6/ND7, and now P8/ND7 on the same system, I can say that the gap is important each time, especially from P6 to P8. I don’t know the P6RS, but it should logically be between P6 and P8.

I don’t think you can go far wrong using a Rega phono stage with a Rega TT. If you know whether your cartridge is MM or MC you can also choose a phono stage just suitable for your chosen type of Cartridge and save yourself £££.

I use a Rega MC fono mk4 phonostage which uses some similar circuitry as the far more expensive Aria phono stage but can be had used from £150.

It sounds very good to me.

Rega MM Mk5 phono stage. They’re designed to go w their TTs.

Thats the interesting question, I’m sure many will try this compare the coming months, other things such as phonostage in use could be important before doing a final conclusion. Many things point against P6RS are closer to P8 than P6.

Ive had the P10, P8, P8 with the RB3000, P6, P3, P9 and RP40

Im running the P6 at this time, and planning upgrading to the RS in a year or two. The P6 is kind of a sweet spot. The P10 and P8 sounds to clinical to my ears. I miss the P9 tough

I had a Fono mk5 which I replaced with the Gold Note PH7, another great improvement!

Which cartridge were used? Because with the ND7 it’s not at all clinically accurate…

Very strange, not my experience at all, Could say this about the RP10 hard pressed, certainly not P8 - Wonderfull deck.

Could be other issues which came to this conclusion.

Good to hear.

The combination of loudspeaker and amp might have something to do about my experience - Naim 252/300/supercap/ ATC SCM40.

But then again - sold the P10 and bought a Linn LP12 and suddenly - less detail but a lot more musicality. P10 is a very good turntable but got me tired in the brain, and in the end I avoidet playing records.

Is the RS in-stock for UK retailers? I just looked at my German dealer and still only taking orders with no timetable for delivery. Which was exactly my experience with the P3 RS as well. Took forever to get it over here.
