Just got a Rega Planar Plus 1 for my oldest son as he is using a RCA cable to connect directly to our Naim MuSo 2 we have in the living room. Since the Rega has a phono stage he was able to connect directly to the Muso and play his records but we are getting a lot of interference/white noise coming out of the Naim.
To try to sort it out I took a Rega Fono MM MK5 out of my systems and installed on his to see if that solved the problem but it actually got worse/more interference.
Any ideas? Maybe a better cable? Electromagnetic interference?
I’ve been researching and that connecting should have been pretty straightforward.
That does sound odd. A two RCA to stereo 3.5mm jack should just work. I wonder if there is an issue with the cable? You don’t need a better one necessarily, just one that works. The other potential answer is that the muso has problems with its analogue input. I don’t suppose you have a Qb in the house that you could try?
Thanks! that’s what I thought and one of the reasons to get the Mega was the direct connection to the Muso 2. I will try to buy another cable and give it another run.
I do not have a QB in the house. I did go to the nearby audio and video store and the guy told me this issue is not unusual but then recommended a phono stage - which I tried but did not solve (actually exacerbated) the problem
How did you connect this? As far as I’m aware you cannot bypass the Planar +1 built in phono stage, so if you connected it through your Fono as well it’s not going to sound right at all.
thanks. Yes, you can’t bypass the phono stage from the Rega. That’s why I’ve connected directly first. Just tried my Fono MM when that didn’t work but as you’ve mentioned it messes everything up. Will try new cables tomorrow but other than that not sure what to do - should be pretty straightforward
If you have a 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead, you could try another analogue signal into it, from a radio, an old iPod or whatever. That would tell you if it’s the RCA to jack lead or the Mu-so itself.
