I’m too fast for my own good sometimes. Sorry about me claiming such when it was not the case. I read your post and understood it as you had moderated my post removing my thoughts.
So it is the same basic cheap switch board that a few use then ?
I have read that a few then change a few things, but i believe it’s just a power supply or clock that gets swapped out.
Obviously, i could be far off the mark here.
But i will say the reiki switch is very nicely made. It all feels very good quality from the box it comes into the unit itself.
Shame it didn’t work for me, but as said right from the start, we knew it might be hard for it to beat the PhoenixNet, but was asked to try it. That’s why i was only sent the pro power supply in the end, as i did think i was getting the standard one.
But if i knew beforehand what it was basically inside, then i wouldn’t have bothered, as it never really stood any chance did it.
But don’t let my findings put you off unless you have a PhoenixNet, then i wouldn’t bother. As it could work fabulously for you.
Cheers dunc
I still have my Uptone Etheregen in my system as well as my Phoenixnet. I still from time to time keep an eye on the Uptone website, they are a small company. They had to stop making the Etheregen due to Covid supply limitations, now back in production. They have been working on a revamped version, been taking a long time. I can see why just buy a board and tinker with it, is easy and potentially more profitable. But unlikely to best a new ground up design which will be trying to be much better than competitors at a price point.
The power supply is very important so it’s not just a power supply. I also guess that the clock is important too. Doesn’t DCS sell separate clocks?
Yes i know the power supply is very important and i didn’t mean it to sound like i thought it wasn’t.
It was more that the mods that look to get done to said board is clock change and better power supplies.
But really i have no more to say about the reiki switch/filter or whatever you want to call it.
Plus with the hassle over it, wish i hadn’t.
I didn’t like it in my system over the PhoenixNet end off really, that’s it for me. You might like it.
I once again thank Nigel for sending me one to try.
Fair enough. I have never heard it and have no opinion on how it works and no intention of trying it out. All is good.
Hi …
INSTEAD,.hopefully, you can try the Pura Ammonite Elite-switch soon…
And maybe also against the Phoenix Net-switch (both the original and the modded version) .
IF,.you have some money left after your investment in the incredibly well-playing new Gold Note XS-85 speakers .
Haha, yes I need to explore switches more. I’ve tried the cheaper Pura, EE8, SOTM and the modded PN so far
Are any of these findings from the time when you had Naim here or only since you stopped using Naim gear?
The 222 definitely benefited from a network switch; both an EE8 and a PN
Not tried with the 272 when I had that (many years past). PS upgrade was very noticeable though
I’ve not tried network filters with Naim, but there’s no reason not to suspect that they will be equally effective as with non Naim kit.
Network stuff is very system dependent though.
Do you need to be at least Reiki 1 attuned to be able to use it (yes we do practice Reiki.).
Yes the 272 does greatly benefit from improvements to the switch.

Hi …
Among other things,.I have owned the “cheaper Pura-switch” and the EE8,and evaluated a total of 11 switches in my system in the last two years.
I know Mats has ordered a Pura Ammonite Elite-switch so I don’t have to send mine down to you.
Mats J is also very interested in comparing the Pura Elite against his modded PN.
It might be a bit unfair as Mats J’s PN is ridiculously good…
But but,.you never know, against an original PN the Elite is a bit better in my system.
Everything is so system dependent when it comes to network things.
Well i wasn’t going to say anymore, due to reasons i won’t go into, but here we go.
Well after a good night sleep, and thinking about all this, I decided to give it another go.
I also decided I would rather than just sit it on the top off my rack together, I would 100% go for it.
So I completely removed the phoenixnet, I then used the same power cable from my dedicated mains supply, I didn’t do this first time round as I wanted to be able to just switch between them by just swapping the ethernet into the dac. It was still using a good quality mains cable but plugged into the normal ring main.
So now I have the switch in my rack where the phoenixnet was, the power supply is on the top shelf, with the power cable nicely run.
I also now will be using the same catsnake ethernet cable, that I ran from my cisco switch just for my hifi, rather than the cable that is for the TV, obviously I didn’t have the TV plugged in, it was just the switch. But obviously a different cable, but fed from the same cisco switch.
So this is now a much more optimum set up, and very much how it would be if I had this switch, the power supply would move, but that right now that would mean a big move around.
So off we go. The good news is it’s better, much better.
I played my 3 favourite tracks as I do, and I didn’t feel the same big difference.
I would say that the phoenixnet still had the edge on it, especially with voices, it just sounded more in control and grown up if that makes sense, with the reiki being a bit more harsh sounding overall.
Obviously the difference could be the omega cable, but decided if I was going to do the above, I would go all reiki.
Obviously I know set up can make the difference , and it looks like with a system like mine, or the fantastic vivaldi dac I have, this really shows up things, plus maybe the reiki is also very susceptible to set up?
Cheers dunc
You didn’t notice any bigger difference between Shunyata Omega and Reiki ethernet?
I haven’t tried it, kept it all reiki, as the omega is shielded connected both end’s i believe.
The reiki cable isn’t and was told that for maximum performance off the reiki, the cable needs to be right.
Plus for a more reliable review off it, that is why i re did it all, and tried to give it the best chance i could.
I also did it as i was very disappointed, Nigel was disappointed, and something had to be upsetting it, as the difference at the start was just too big really for a switch.
Sounds like you gave it a proper trial.
Mine sounded better without the ee8 stacked on top of it while I was hot swapping to highlight any differences so maybe it’s as susceptible as any other component in the rack to placement.
I have just boxed it all back up as it’s back in the post in the morning.
Phoenixnet back in and running.
Why didn’t you test it with the same Ethernet cables as the PN? With everything else being equal. Did you take the power cord from the PN and plug it in to the Reiki. You can’t compare them with different power cords and get a reliable result.
