I recall a number of years ago, I was auditing a cable company in the UAE. Was in the foundry where the copper was being smelted and the furnace temperature was 1176 degrees C.
Never before have I been wet all over, fully dressed for all the wrong reason, could feel my toes squelching in my safety boots.
DG…
Even so …Kimber cable does not meet Naim’s requirements.
Kudos KS-1 ticks all your boxes…
With my 500s away at Salisbury for routine servicing, i am presently running KS-1 on my SBLs with 72 hicap 180 and this is preferable to NAC5 to my ears, very affordable and the flexibility is very user friendly.
Benefits having naim plugs fitted at least on the amp end, if not both
There was an occasion when Quad were at a hifi show and forget to take any speaker cable. The late Peter Walker went down to the local DIY store bought some lawn mower extension lead, job done!
There will be sound with any material and wire that transfer signal. I’m sure a coat hanger can get the job done too. The question is. What are your requirements in terms of performance. Just that it makes sound or great sound. Why shall naim use best caps and transistors and whatever when they can buy some cheap rubbish and put in their boxes. There will be sound of course. Job done.
I’m a bit amazed by so many choosing non compromise naim products for £££££ and then get whatever cables connected to them and say “job done”. It’s like purchasing a red wine at 500GBP and then drink it together with a Big Mac. Job done.
I don’t think it’s a question of people buying “whatever cables” but is there a better, most often, more expensive alternative. And like most things with hifi there’s not just one answer.
I agree ,and question is, will it be better to spend those money upstreams closer to or on the Source,I think so.
Too short for a Naim amp
I didn’t claim it did!
Though that only refers to the speaker cable, of course. There’s no reason one mustn’t use Kimber interconnects or mains leads in a Naim system.
I think what @PerF is saying is that those brands do not make their own cable.
I’ve used Chord Campana, NAC A5, Linn K20, Vertere Pulse X-mini, solid-core 4x1.5 mains cord, Van Damme, Canare…
I heard differences ranging from the €2/mt. Campana to the €90/mt. Vertere. The latter are too expensive, but the former were too good for the price… Ops, they have been discontinued. I wonder why.
Like in the last scene of Alexander Payne’s Sideways?
I confirm the same experience. I have tried various vdh and naca5 cables. Then a normal power cable (2.5 mm) with braided shielding connected to the negative pole on the speakers side… an excellent result for 7 meters at €30 in total. On the other hand a similar configuration is used on the Supra Ply 3.4 s cable… but at €15 per metre. Not much all things considered
