This has just been announced. Another great gone. Very sad.
RIP Jimmy. More than 30 studio albums, including recently Refugees, with Wyclef Jean in 2022.
One of those musicians as part of my growing up, r.i.p
His version of Many Rivers To Cross get’s me every time. Another sad loss R.I.P Jimmy.
Damn……
Very sad to hear this. R.I.P. Jimmy.
Another passes. A real reggae pioneer in making the genre popular outside of the Caribbean community.
Good songs, good memories.
RIP Jimmy Cliff.
Sad to hear, part of my growing up, great songs, great memories.
R.I.P.
Growing up, Jimmy was most definitely a major part of my musical enjoyment, and in the years since, he has entertained folks world wide.
Sad news, indeed.
R.I.P Jimmy Cliff, and thank you so much for all the glorious choons.

He was blessed with such an incredible voice. Long may his star keep shining.
RIP Jimmy Cliff.

I still enjoy the version of ‘The Harder They Come’ by Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders. RIP Jimmy.
So Sad to hear this. His album “Special” is really great. Love it - always reminds me of summer days
Jimmy wrote Many Rivers To Cross about the frustration he felt living in Britain after signing with Island Records. It was the first time he dealt with racism on a major scale and he was unsure if his music career was taking him where he wanted to be. The reference to the White Cliffs of Dover name checks the many times he crossed the channel to play in Europe, mostly in clubs. Fortunately Island’s Chris Blackwell stuck with him.

The other song of his which really gets me is Vietnam. One of the great protest songs.
I never saw Jimmy perform, but I was fortunate to see him star in The Harder They Come when it played at a single screen movie theatre in Toronto in the '80s. I’d owned the soundtrack for years by then so it was great to hear the music in the context of the film, which is pretty enjoyable despite its low budget seventies look. I still have that copy of the music on vinyl which came in a nice gatefold package with images from the movie.
I agree with everything that has been said about the passing of the great Jimmy Cliff. His music was part of the soundtrack of my youth and he helped bring reggae to a much wider audience.
Also glad that his song Vietnam got a mention. It is often overlooked but, in my humble opinion, is one of the most powerful anti-war songs ever written - and yet so simple.
God Bless, Jimmy
