Rest in peace Sly.
Wherever you are, keep on dancin’ to the music.
Coincidentally, I was playing Fresh this afternoon and five minutes after, I heard the news of his death.

Just reading about this. RIP Sly
Another legend has left us
About fifteen years ago I was on the much maligned and not at all private/secure network Omegle. Got talking to someone who claimed to be Sly Stone. “Yes and I’m the Prince of Wales.”
To prove he was Sly Stone I gave him a Freeserve email address I used fur junk stuff like that and suggested he posted a picture of himself looking at our chat on his computer. Didn’t expect to hear anything further but less than five minutes later an email came through and five minutes later a picture downloaded and, er, it was Sly Stone. Not clean at that point but very much coherent. Chatted for about two hours. Extraordinary thing the internet occasionally.
Read his autobiography last year. Fantastic we got to the point where he was sufficiently clean he could get a book out but also remarkable for one of the weirdest train encounters I’ve ever had whilst reading a book.
Just last week we watched the Questlove documentary “Sly Lives” on Apple TV. An excellent way to spend 1 hour and 52 minutes of your time. Strongly recommended.
Ditto the boxed set “Higher!” for any beginners.
I’ve been spinning STAND! all morning.
Was amazed to find this just now on YouTube. NorthSea 2007, was there right at the back of the huge auditorium so saw more of the gig on this video than in person. Don’t remember too much of Sly on the day (much of the concert was without him) and don’t recall his toilet break but I do remember Cynthia Robinson on trumpet.
Nice to view this at leisure and in comfort instead of sweating at the back with limited viz at Ahoy!
I saw (Sly and) The Family Stone at Ronnie Scott’s in 2014 - no Sly. They were sensational. A shame Sly wasn’t involved but the songs were all there of course and they were played beautifully. R.I.P Sly.
