RIP Tim de Paravicini

Most of MFs bigger stuff up to about 2010 was based on his early work for MF.

MFs power amps fundamental design did not really change, just evolved. Using chokes was an example.
I’m still a fan of MF gear from that era of 1996 to 2007. Great design and build for the money. Never the last word, nor expensive. But great bang for your buck.
And most importantly maintainable. Not now by MF, but a few well known specialists.

A great character and a sad loss.

I used Tim’s amps for a couple of decades. I would class him as a man who doesn’t suffer fools gladly, there was little soft or cuddly about him. He had an insatiable curiosity. One time I had taken my 534 in for a service and was sitting withe the engineer at the bench when Tim came over and noticed I was using some NOS valves, he immediately asked if he could borrow one and ran some tests against it. For the record, I normally ran Tim’s own valves which were reasonably priced and I enjoyed as much.

Over the years TdeP gave me a number of pieces of advice that I found useful. I know his staff will be missing him and will now be in a world of uncertainty.

My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and everyone connected with EAR-Yoshino.
