I once spent a month working in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. I asked a colleague whether he could recommend any books about South Africa. I was expecting an erudite response as he was a professor of sociology, but he recommended the Wilbur Smith novels.

Ah , for a long time one of my favourite authors and certainly Dad’s .
It started to become formulaic , rather like Alexander Kent (another favourite from that time)

Yes very sad but comes to us all. Read all of his books except the very last ones as I think they were ghost written. He was indeed a great talent.

Yes, I saw that which has prompted me to read the river God set again after many many years. An author I read a lot when I was younger, sad loss
