I actually made it, was a interesting location, lovely setting, hosts where superb and Jon (Naim) was a joy to talk to.
Some thoughts though.
NERDS & NEWBIES
Was interesting that probably the majority over two listening sessions had very little knowledge of Naim, so it was good to see a dealer with every competitor brand having a full room for a Naim demo.
SETUP
It was clear the progressive ladder climb the NDX2/SN2 was good, but for me the room setup let it down badly, sound stage and imaging where non existent. A shame but Jon was good to point out room was setup for the whole audience so speakers quite far apart.
MUSIC
Pretty much everything played was not my cuppa tea, plus i found it did not do the system any favors, Jon was quick to point out about recording quality, types of music, i thought what a load of bollocks, then he played something else and BANG he was right.
I love the way Jon did his pitch, asked questions, but nothing leading, more subtle guidance and best of all when he handed the iPad over and left it to be passed around. My turn i played some Travis Scott, fortunately without the usual profanity, NDX2/SN2 handled is effortlessly.
I managed to persuade Jon to add the ND555 to the demo once it quietened, but sadly I got a where the heck are you call and had to leave
DEALER
For me it was clear such a demo in such an environment would only spark an interest, that would need a solo demo or a home demo. I like my local dealer (a 10 min drive), whereas AudioBarn a scenic 30min drive, i would for sure return to purchase in the future.
Why?, it was a very inviting, no pressure, no toe tapping salesman, no what you buying, what you got, just enjoy yourself, listen, eat, have a drink.
Only downside I forgot my goodie bag
