Roon 1.8

I think a lot of it is lockdown fever

Okā€¦ just in case anyone else wants to do this.

Now you have to click on the Tag you want to remove (while in the album).
This takes you to a list of all albums with that Tag.
Scroll and find the Album you want to remove the Tag from and select it.
Click three dot menu.
Select remove Tag.

Before (1.7)
When in the Album click, ā€œAdd Tagā€
Deselect the Tag from the list of Tags.

Hummmā€¦ something seems to have either been missed or made over complicated

I do think that many of the guys on the Roon forum are being a bit disingenuous.
Itā€™s obvious that Roon put a lot of work into this, why canā€™t we appreciate that.
It aint broke (for the most part) just a bit different and teething issues are to be expected. Report back by all means but at least give them a chance.

The positives outweigh the negatives. A few tweaks here and there and it will all be good!

It felt to me as if you had interpreted it that way. I didnā€™t mean it like that and am sorry if it came across this way. It had been a busy day with lots of posts that I wrote in this thread (and others) which I hope were predominantly constructive and helpful in instances where people were seeking help, so Iā€™m sorry if these ones went wrong. Maybe we all need to get out more  (I definitely should, been under lockdown since the beginning of November)

No doubt about that! But please donā€™t feel I thought you were being insulting at all.

Thank you. All good!
(I am so pleased with myself for having decided to buy the all new system in autumn, is easing the pain  )

The old canard of ā€˜some people just dislike changeā€™ should be laid to rest. I love change - and had been calling for and looking forward to a UI revamp, but not one that takes the focus OFF of MY collection (oh how I hate those headers with that stupid homily) and just seemingly throws random elements and typefaces and color bubbles here and there. Fix the bugs and donā€™t remove useful features (such as star ratings on thumbnails) - too much time spent writing silly essays for genre headings rather than making sure the program is easy to navigate. And 60% approval is perhaps a good rate for a politician, but not for software that people subscribe to.

Itā€™s not a suitable thing to explain everything away, but it is also a fact that it happens

Very true

Iā€™ve been using it over last few days and must admit generally Iā€™m disappointed. Itā€™s a bit fur coat nae knickers, style over substance. I agree unfortunately the focus has moved from a personal focus/collection. Too much is missing, ratings, recording dates and details.
At first looks ok after using for a while Iā€™m left asking myself will I continue to pay for this.

What use are ratings unless you canā€™t remember if you liked an album or not?

I suppose people use them in different ways, If Iā€™m discovering new artists with a large back catalogue I would use them as a quick start guide. The point is they were there, I used them, now they are not, itā€™s not a debate on the merit of ratings which is a different issue.

I have thousands of albums in my album view. Some are real favorites (heart), some are seminal (pick), others have a rating. The rating generally says how much I personally like an album (as opposed to pick), but the lowest rating is for albums that I do not listen to usually, but I donā€™t want to forget them. (Just as an example, there is an album by one Swedish and one Thai free jazzer that they released to document how their collaboration was not working and how they kept misunderstanding each other. I donā€™t typically listen to this  but it is interesting)

So sometimes I want to see all, sometimes use Focus to only see 5 stars (stuff I really like but is wider than my ā€œheartā€ favorites), sometimes 3 stars and above, sometimes only 1 star and below. And so on.

For this purpose itā€™s actually not necessary to see the rating on the thumbnail in album overview, but somehow I am missing them. Anyways there are ten things that I can choose to see on the thumbnail nor not, so why not the rating

Interesting, hadnt noticed that the recording dates had been omitted.
They should be in the Credits section I guess.
They are still in the album editor so they are available, the Roon team just need to decide to bring them through.

I like 1.8 though generally.
Some things are better, some things are missing and some things have gone backwards, I think we will see quite a lot of updates over the coming weeks/monthsā€¦

Thank god after I added them to what felt like 100 ripped CDs within 2 months

Again about this: I am confused.

[Edited & corrected:]

Hereā€™s an album that is unidentified (personal bootleg) and I added the recording date in the album recording dates AND in the track recording dates. Note the album recording date middle-right and track recording date/location at bottom left:

And here is an album I ripped and is also in Qobuz. For the ripped version (edited:) the album recording date was already in the Roon metadata and I added the track dates manually (largely because I was adding the recording location anyways). The track dates are there bottom left but there is no album recording date. I verified that it is still in the edits:

I think I saw others that I thought had a recording date and it seemed missing in the view, but not sure, I have to dig.

Generally I dislike that the length/rating/date/etc info shows up in different places depending on whether there is an album review or not (I think)

Last night I also thought itā€™s sounding slightly better than before. Not sure if itā€™s this upgrade or something else in my system(other beta software etc)

Itā€™s your ears, and the mood that you are in today?

This can often happen. Mood and well-being affects how we hear the music.

I find just before or as a migraine hits my system sounds itā€™s worst but can sound near its best as the Sumatriptan has kicked in and my head clears

How strange @Suedkiez !
I just took a look again.
This is an album that I manually added the dates in:-

And this is one that I ripped to my Innuos Zen:-

But as I said earlier, and as per your comment, the detail is in the Album Editor, so I dont know why it shows manual adds but not automatic metadata???
Maybe one for the Roon Forum when it quietens down
