hahahaha. On the upside I just found out that I can scroll through the history of lookups by 2-finger sideways scroll on the laptop’s touchpad
This was a very necessary clarification and not what I expected!

Ok… the new Home Screen on 1.8 confirms how long you’ve been listening and to what over the last 4 weeks…
How many hours have you managed? Is mine a little excessive?!? Am I getting value for money?!?
Damn! Are you retired?
I’ve racked 100 hours+, but I often accidentally leave it on with Roon radio running and the volume down or a different input on the pre-amp.
Not on a metered connection then?
No, unlimited except by the bandwidth (80/20), Zen is the ISP. Have been with them for years, not the cheapest but their support is great.
Lol… na, self-employed photographer/ illustrator.
Headphones on by 7am… off at 3pm to do other bits around the house then a couple of hours on the speakers in the evening. And that’s weekdays
As I need to upload a lot of imagery and footage, my connection is unlimited at 350mbs down and 50mbs up.
I guess music is my creative fuel!
Awesome! I’m lucky if I get 2 solid hours a night. Headphones are in my future that’s for sure.
Only 133 hours for me.
I just changed the font size on my phone. It’s made Roon look better with smaller text I think. Less my first audio app.
The more I use this feature, the more I really like this feature to be honest.
Same here, I would not go back to 1.7.
A superb, slick interface, honestly.
I like Bullit … can’t say I have noticed that VW, but I will keep my eyes peeled next time… I’d be a hopeless continuity person I sort of see what I expect to see.
I live in my headphones for work… even when I’m away from my desk working in my studio. I just take the TT2 and headphones with me. Sometimes the M Scaler as well if I’m going to be in there for the day. You just need to make sure they’re comfy and sound great without being fatiguing!
I would say 90% of my listening is via headphones, during work as background and after work to unwind. With everyone being home I don’t get time alone in the evening in the front room to use the Naim much until very late on.
Having to work all day in the dining room I dont want to stay in there and listen to my 2nd system so I go upstairs and listen for a few hours on my bedroom headstation this often turns into all night sessions. I am preferring the intimacy it brings and it sounds superb all the time with no room or person interactions. I am very surprised and pleased what a modest system can do and gives my main system a run for its money on enjoyability.
A number of people on this thread have indicated a strong preference for Roon version 1.8 over version 1.7.
Can I ask you if you mostly use the Roon app on a phone or a small tablet in portrait mode, or do you ever use a large (ish) 16:9 monitor or Windows 10 laptop?
My personal view is that (functionality aside) the visual impact of the new version on a 16:9 screen looks horribly stark and amateurish compared to the previous version, with subtle backround colours tuned to album covers or artist photos replaced by a choice of only pure black or white. Black text on white or white text on black on a large screen invokes eye strain almost immediately.
The use of circles to constrain photos of artists is just ludicrous - a function that, like quite a few aspects of the new design isno doubt provided out of the box by Roon’s new choice of Web Design/Development system. In fact many of the questionable statistical ‘tricks’ such as the amount of time spent using Roon are almost certainly out of the box features provided by their new development software. Initially quite amusing, but over time very irritating!
And as for the nonsensical mix of irritating fonts and font sizes, the reduction in the number of albums that can displayed on screen (awful on a large monitor), and the patronizing “Hello Fred” or “My albums” introductions in ridiculously large font that takes up half the page - what’s to like?
My rant is over, but my question remains a serious one. Do those of you who like the new version of Roon largely use a mobile phone or small tablet in portrait mode as your principle control device?
I use a Lenovo 10" tablet in landscape mode. I have tried a Windows laptop but apart from a bigger screen it offered no benefit and took up more table space.
TBH it all looks OK to me and I don’t spend much time faffing about with things anyway. Find and Play is more my style - just like I’ve always done with LPs
Ipad mini, landscape. I’m happy.
It depends @Hmack where I am in the house - not that’s it large, but it’s about convenience. I use my iPhone for controlling music in the bedrooms and kitchen. In my study I use either an iPad or Macmini, and in the living room I use an iPad or the AppleTV app.
After a few days I can safely say I wouldn’t choose to go back to the previous version. I like the interface on my android tablet and on my android phone it’s superb. Radio is working really well and I’m finding new music and being able to use the phone without it being cack is a bonus. Pretty pleased with it.
