Roon grouping and synchronisation of playback

I’m having a problem with Roon groups. The place to work out how to fix this is the Roon forum, but I’d be interested to know if anyone here with a similar configuration has this problem or, and equally valuable to know, doesn’t have it.

The issue is that with a group of two Roon ready devices (ie using RAAT), for example an ND5XS2 in one room and a Muso in another, then after a few tracks the playback from the two starts to get out of sync. It seems to gradually get worse the more tracks I play. If I set up those exact two endpoints in a group using Airplay then all’s good, will play for hours and stay in sync. Using the Naim app and Naim multiroom is also solid (with a Muso and a Muso Qb).

Familar, or not, to anyone ?

Are you applying any eq within roon on one but not the other?

I see that you have an MScaler and a TT2. The extra processing involved will add latency, which Roon will not understand as it just sees your ND5XS2. I noticed a delay when using NDX2/Dave in multiroom.
The above would apply with any multiroom source though, so that doesn’t fully explain why you get this only with Roon, or why it gets worse over time, although I wonder if the fact that Roon multiroom plays a native lossless stream to all endpoints might add delay, whereas other multiroom setups are lossy.

I don’t use DSP at the moment.

Yes, I have to configure a 740ms delay when using another device with the ND5XS2 / Mscaler / TT2 ! Until about a month ago that was solid and had been for as long as I’ve had that setup, about 3 years.
I did wonder if the delay might be a problem somehow, but I get the same issue with just a Muso and a Muso Qb, with no delay configured there.

Do you still have NDX2 + Dave in multiroom @ChrisSU ?

Not any more. The delay didn’t really bother me because the system was a fair distance from my other streamers, so it didn’t really need to be in perfect sync.
