I suspect I have a network issue, but before I go down that rabbit hole the issue (or non issue) is this. Every time I start playing an album or track via Roon the music starts then Roon starts seeking its server and the music stops. Then I have to wait while the app reconnects with the server. Occasionally, Roon wants to download an update, which I understand, but otherwise I need to start selection and play after a couple of minutes.

Does anyone else have this issue or should I seek to sort out my network?

Since you mention update prompts, one thing worth checking is whether the server and remotes are on the same Roon version. Roon’s article Why can’t Roon Remote Connect says different versions can prevent a connection, although the exact build numbers do not have to match. That doesn’t establish the cause of your intermittent disconnects, but it gives you a specific check before assuming the network is at fault.

Interesting … the update always asks if I want to update all apps. I assume that includes: iPhone, iPad, Mac and server. So all should be on same version.

Unfortunately not so… ios/android/etc update from their own ‘stores’ which can delay release if there is a delay in approvals. Dependent on how you have configured things (auto update/etc) that means you might be behind or ahead with any update.

It’s not usually an issue, but it has caught people out before. I _usually_ check to see if anyone has major issues before updating, but have previously had to dig myself out of a self-inflicted hole…

One thing I’d try before changing anything on the network is starting an album and then closing the Roon Remote app.

The server handles playback independently, so the music should normally continue even without the remote connected.

If the music stops anyway, that might point more toward the server or its connection to the streamer rather than just the remote losing contact.

I’m curious, what device are you running Roon Server on? And is it connected by Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

Hard wired to Cisco switch. Audiostore Prestige must be 10 years old at least.

There seems to be an issue with the Roon Server app itself, rather than your home network. As a test, I would suggest moving the Roon Server app to a different machine, such as a Windows PC or a Mac.

The same thing happens which ever app I use. I could run the server from my app but I don’t think I could access my files, plus I would have to re register with Roon telling them I’ve moved.

Not sure if I can follow you! In the Roon terminology, Roon Server is an app, it is an executable that runs in Windows PC or a Mac or even a NAS, a Roon Remote on a PC or a Mac can double as a Roon Server.

So you are saying that it does not matter where you run the Roon Server, the same issue occurs? In that case, you can send the logs to the Roon support, they can tell straight away where the problem is, it could also be a firewall issue?

From the point of view of being able to provide meaningful help can you clarify where your Roon server which used to be called core is running?

then when you try and play a track are you using something like an iPhone or iPad?

Have you tried restarting your Roon server?
Never a bad idea either to turn off your router, leave off for about 5 mins and restart.

Now I think I know how you set up your Roon environment, Google Gemini comes back with the following tips:

When a track starts, a large burst of data is sent to buffer the song. If the network drops packets or the Roon Core crashes and reboots during that burst, the app loses its handshake and begins “seeking” the server.

Here is exactly how to diagnose and resolve this issue:

**1. The Roon Version Mismatch (Most Common)**

As noted in the forum discussion, when Roon constantly prompts for updates or exhibits this “start-then-seek” behavior, the Roon Remote app (on your phone/tablet) and the Roon Server (on the Prestige) are likely out of sync.

- **The Cause:** If your phone automatically updated to a newer Roon build from the App Store, but the Audiostore Prestige hasn’t updated its background server package yet, the two devices will struggle to maintain a stable connection.
- **The Fix:** Go into your Audiostore Nova web panel, navigate to the Software Manager, and force a Roon Server update. Then, restart the server. Ensure both your remote device and the server show they are running the same software generation.

**2. IP Address Leases (DHCP Overlap)**

If the Audiostore Prestige drops offline the exact moment it starts working hard (like fetching a stream), it might be experiencing an IP address conflict.

- **The Cause:** If your router changes the server’s local IP address or assigns its IP to another device on the network, the Roon Remote app will instantly lose track of it.
- **The Fix:** It is highly recommended by users on [Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/roonlabs/comments/1x0fw1a/roon_cant_connect_to_server_after_software_update/) to assign a **Reserved/Static IP address** to your Roon Server inside your router’s settings. This ensures it stays anchored to a single network location.

**3. Network Multicast / IGMP Snooping**

Because the Prestige is a fanless, high-efficiency machine, it handles the audio data fine, but the _network path_ between your control phone and the server might be choking on the “RAAT” (Roon Advanced Audio Transport) protocol.

- **The Cause:** When you hit play, a massive, uncompressed stream starts moving. If your phone is on 5GHz Wi-Fi and the router is poorly handling “multicast” data packets, the router will briefly drop the phone’s connection to the server to prevent flooding the Wi-Fi network.
- **The Fix:** Log into your router settings and look for a setting called **IGMP Snooping** and turn it **ON**. This forces the router to intelligently route Roon’s discovery traffic only to the devices that need it, stopping the dropouts.

**4. Streaming Service Token Corruption**

If this _only_ happens when playing tracks from Tidal or Qobuz (but local files stored on the Prestige SSD play perfectly), the issue is a security token timeout.

- **The Fix:** In the Roon app, go to _Settings \> Services_. Log completely out of Tidal/Qobuz, restart the Roon app, and log back in. This refreshes the streaming certificates and usually stops the immediate track-start crashes.

Does this dropping out happen on **every single track** (including local files), or does it primarily happen when you stream from **Tidal or Qobuz**? Knowing this can help narrow down if it’s a network bandwidth issue or a software glitch.

Apologies for mixed terminology …

The Audiostore hosts Roon application and music, it’s linked to the Cisco switch.

All my music end points are wired to the Cisco.

I run the Roon app on an iPad, iPhone and MacMini. The MacMini also runs a copy of the Roon software just in case the Audiostore crashes (it has access to a NAS with copies of my music).

iPad Roon remote app, version 2.74 build 1712

iPhone app, remote version 2.74 build 1712

Macmini app, remote version 2.74 build 1716 latest version

Roon server on Audiostore, version 2.74, build 1717 - latest version @Sloop_John_B

@sean86 i notice the problem mostly when using discovery to choose what to play on Unitiqutes, it does not happen much when using the NDS because I choose a particular album.

I think discovery chooses a Qobuz version in preference to a local version on the Audiostore. I’m not sure about this.

You can pick which album version to play;

Well certainly everything is up to date and correct.

Does the issue with Roon searching for the server happen with both iPhone and iPad and wired Macmini?

What do you mean by “using discovery”?

I would also clean up the library to prevent Roon mixing up which album it decides to play.

Settings-\> Library-\> Clean up library

Do that on all Roon Remote on your iPhone, iPad, and your Mac Mini.
