I can clearly here the difference with my ATC’s
Yes I could on my ATCs too, as well as my current speakers.
Though my masters have remained un resampled on Qobuz in terms of sampling frequency and word size, where as they have been resampled on Tidal.
Oh, OK, that’s in the app itself? Thanks.
I ended up deleting the app and reinstalling it. I just had to login again, but I use 1Password so that makes it easy.
At the moment I have no streamer in my main system, and in about two weeks I’ll have a network DAC, but no streamer, so I won’t be able to use Qobuz Connect for that anyway.
Even though once bought a Roon lifetime subscription stopped using it some time ago as its sound quality doesn’t meet JPlay, Qobuz Connect etc. Also Roon has some other problems too.
I’ve found that Roon SQ can vary quite a bit. However, with the correct settings, it can sound VERY good.
What other problems does Roon have?
I don’t know what others think, but I find tagging in Roon a bit confusing, particularly albums with multiple artists.
Soundwise, I find it just as good as anything else. I like its reliability, as opposed to other players.
Quite many, depending on your usage scenario. The app is still choppy to use, overall performance problems/bugs, and the customer support is far off. Just a recent example take a look at how things went for: Sluggish playback on Roon with Qobuz playlists and connectivity issues (ref#DI4HVB) - Support - Roon Labs Community
Seeing this happening to paying customers is sad to see. Had hoped things change after the Samsung take-over but unfortunately didn’t.
Yes, their support is really poor and it always has been.
I have no problems with their app. and generally think it works ok and like the user-friendliness.
I also have the Sense app. and I can’t hear any difference.
Well as you mentioned such a terrible support for paying customers is hard to swallow. Lucky one of you got no severe problems. The app experience in scrolling and using is so bad for years that many have even cancelled the subscription and stopped using Roon at all.
I don’t know if it’s because I only listen to my local files on my Innuos.
My roon ROCK has been flawless for the last five years with both Qobuz and local files, and sounds as good as digital will allow.
I mostly use a Roon controller on a MacBook Air for my main hifi and Mu-so boxes, and on a Mac Mini with 32” 4k monitor for the Atom in my home office. I also have an iPad Pro 12.9 but don’t use it much anymore. I don’t have UI issues very often at all, but that might just be the way I use it (I mostly just play complete albums at a time). I haven’t needed to use Roon support in years, but whern I did they were repsonsive enough. The one problem I had was when they stopped replying when the support person left Roon, but they picked it up again when I complained.
I’m more or less happy enough with the Roon experience and playback quality to continue using it for now.
I’ve really grown to love Tags in Roon. Think of them as a playlist but you can have Albums and or individual tracks.
I think of tags more like my own self defined sub-categories, by combining a few tags I can find whatever kind of music I’m in the mood for with a level of specificity no other platform can match, no even close.
Apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place but I would appreciate some help.
I use Roon (the Roon Core is on a Roon Nucleus) to control the music I play from my Naim NDX2. Until recently using the Roon App I could see the music stored on my Melco music store (which is connected to my LAN network via ethernet and the Melco then connects via Ethernet to the NDX2) and also the music stored on my Naim Uniti Core (which is in another room).
Recently irrespective of how I try to connect the Uniti Core to the network Roon can’t see it. Instead when I look under ‘storage’ in the Roon App it says ‘This directory is not available. Check the directory or edit the folder if it’s been moved.’
Can anyone advise me what I need to do to allow Roon to find the music stored on my Uniti Core?
You might want to do a search to see if someone else has had and solved the problem you have now, rather than just hopping on an existing thread off-topic. If there’s nothing in search results you might want to start a new thread here under Streaming Audio.
I run Roon on a ROCK-based server (like a Nucleus) but I also store my files there, instead of a separate NAS device, and I don’t have a Naim Uniti Core. So I cannot really answer your question. It sounds like you may have a network and/or configuration issue.
I agree, the library management tools in Roon are without peer.
I access most of my stored music via tags. I’ve grouped them on many criteria, like physical albums I’ve owned, new albums I’m enjoying, great recordings, great albums in specific genres, even lists of artists. So powerful.
Also, Listen Later, I use it every day. Any new music I come across via the press, online, radio, tv etc. that piques my interest, I add to Listen Later and come back to it. Much is then discarded, some makes it to other tags.
Just to go back as well to the actual topic, I’ve spent a lot of time comparing Roon SQ with Audirvana, the Focal/Naim app, UPNP and Qobuz Connect and found volume levels differ and accounted for most differences I initially thought I could hear. It’s also important to ensure any filters available in Roon are switched off and physically removed from the signal path to get a true comparison. That said, Roon does rely on a server which if is not well isolated may possibly add noise, although I’ve not experienced it and even if it does, I’ve enjoyed the music so much more via Roon.
Also, as regards bugs in Roon mentioned previously, I’ve used it almost exclusively for 6 years and except for one global glitch in tagging a long while ago, any issues experienced have been traced to either network issues (mine), server issues (mine) or user error (also mine
). Otherwise it’s rock solid.
You’re absolutely right. I do love tags and I prefer to sort the album artists according to the last name. I just stumbled over an album (that was presented in the Jazz forum, a good one btw) that has two album artists. Now Roon sorts the two album artists individually under their last names, but in the album view, Roon sorts the album according the one of the artist’s first name and I can’t it to sort it according to last names, regardless what I try.
But this is just a minor quirk. Overall, I think Roon is great, particularly its stability (as opposed to others). I run Roon on a MacMini (last Intel generation) and stream via WiFi to a Raspberry Pi 5 with a Hifiberry Digi2 Pro HAT that is connected via S/PDIF coaxial to my Devialet. Great sound, and perfectly stable system.
