Anybody else on these and struggling with supply.
My pharmacy cannot get them and I ran out last week.

I know a couple of people having problems, one showed me this article, Rosuvastatin: Not an Official Shortage, just quietly failing
Get your GP to prescribe an alternative, our pharmacist is within the surgery and do this automatically. Its happening on a lot of medicines.
Thanks, I’ll send them a message if I can.
A couple of years back I had an issue with getting a particular medicine. Tried loads of local pharmacists but got nowhere. In the end I started using a postal service from Well, and they seem to have no issues. I suppose the reason is that you are going to the head of distribution to their sub pharmacists shops, instead of getting the dregs of local pharmacists. The downside is that you have to wait for postage for 3-4 days
Apparently this affects Viatris prodcuts only. Get it from any other generic manufacturer, e.g. Sandoz.
I’ve messaged the doctors for a new prescription advising them that Rosuv is not available.
I’ve just ordered some from my friendly local pharmacy, no mention of any shortages. I’d be wary of changing to a different statin. My first try was with Atorvastatin, which gave me weird side effects. A forum member suggested Rosuva, which works with no side effects at all. I take 10mg if that’s relevant to the supply thing.
I’m not hearing anything about rosuvastatin shortages in the US. My manufacturer is Torrent.
Yes, I didn’t get on with Ator either. Interesting that you have no issues with supply and my pharmacy have had my prescription for two weeks.
I’ll try to contact another pharmacy tomorrow.
Many years ago I seem to recall a pharmacist telling me that rosuvastatin was a much better statin in terms of less side effects etc but cost a lot more than the likes of atorvastatin and some GPs were reluctant to prescribe it initially. If you happy with rosuvastatin I would try and stick with it
Rosuvastatin is now off patent, so much cheaper. It’s one of the more powerful statins in terms of reducing cholesterol.
I too had issues with Atorvastatin so stopped it, advised the GP and waited for them to come back to me, their suggestion was to try Rosuvastatin which at the moment seems to be working although I am only on a 5mg dose down from the 10mg of Atorvastatin.
Another Pharmacy said they they are having trouble with supplies of 10mg Rosuvastatin.
I think it’s the usual supply chain problems. Recently I’ve heard of Paracetamol and hearing-aid battery shortages, a while back it was nifedipine. A lot of the drugs or their bases are manufactured in India so shipping and tariffs can play a part, plus of course demand is increasing. If it was convenient for you, using one of the online pharmacy services and getting them delivered by post might be more reliable. You would request the prescription from your GP as usual and they then forward it to your nominated pharmacy which happens to be a remote, mail-order service. I suspect this will become more and more the norm as high-street stores close and the market sees consolidation. Those driving the consolidation like it because they have the opportunity to cross-sell non prescribed products - vitamins, weight-loss jabs … but I don’t logon to the site of my provider, merely request the prescription via the NHS portal so don’t receive any junk mail. Just a thought.
Interested to hear what sort of issues people were having with Atorvastatin? I’ve been on 20mg for over a year and no side effects that I’m aware of!
I’ve been on Atorvstatin for several, years and had no side effects at all
That’s why it’s important to get the right statin, as different ones work best for different people, and some get side effects and some don’t. Atorva made me feel wobbly and unstable, sometimes feeling like I was about to fall over. All very odd.
Thanks for your comments - this is most likely what I will do. I also use the NHS portal as my surgery will not do repeat prescriptions without me attending ![]()
I had terrible nausea that happened every time I took a tablet. Zero side effects with Rosuvastatin.
