Running in Spendor A4.2

You may be right. I had my previous Tannoy’s for 8 years, so that sound is deeply stored in my memory. The Tannoy’s had dual-concentric drivers (tweeter and mid-range), which is very different from the dome tweeters of the Spendors. The Tannoy’s had down-firing bass ports, while the Spendors have bass ports at the rear. I need to give it time to see how things evolve.

It’s been a little over 2 weeks now and I have to say that running in the Spendor A4.2 makes a real difference. The sound is relaxing, the bass is improving and the sound stage has opened up. Did some position tweaking, which also helped. The speakers are now 2.5m apart in an equilateral triangle with a bit of toe-in. It feels like the sound is still improving (or my ears are still adjusting).

Jazz, Soul and Folk are sounding really nice. Focus on the human voice. I also listened to a radio station with a lot of Rock, which was not so enjoyable. But that could very well be stream quality. I will try some Rock on Qobuz also.

At first I was a bit scared that I made the wrong decision to replace the Tannoy’s, but that feeling is gone. One more positive thing is that the Spendors are not directional at all, compared to the Tannoy’s. I like to walk around while listening sometimes and the Spendors sound good everywhere.

nice setup. one question about the new gaia 3 neos. do they fit with the upper rubber ring completely to the speakers? also have the new A4.2. a exact foto of the gaia with spendos would be nice. thank you.

The Gaia III Neo’s are fitted with the optional rubber ring to have more contact surface. They do not completely fit under the speaker as you can see.

thank you. but do they not loose their strengths if they are not fit correctly?

No, I do n’t think so. That’s why the optional rubber washer rings are provided. These increase the contact surface that is compressed to make a tight fit. If the Gaia’s fit completely under a speaker, you do n’t need to use the washer rings.

okay understand your opinion, but I am thinking the older/original Gaia’s are in that case the better fit, because the rubber ring have to completely fit the underside of the speaker, I will see, thank you

You may be right. I think the older versions will completely fit under the Spendors.

yes I really think so, do you know the feet from Stack Audio?

Yes, I have seen those. But never owned / used them. My dealer did not have these.

Before I bought the Gaia Neo’s, I found an article / video where they were fitted just like on my speakers. I think it was an installation video of Gaia, but I can’t remember where it was.

have also read about them, thinking of trying out also some feets for my A4.2s

If you watch the installation video on the Gaia site, you will see some speakers where they are fitted exactly like mine (e.g. the rubber ring not completely under the speaker). That video is at the bottom of the product page.

that is a nice tip, will look at it, thank you bro….

do u use naim speaker cables also?

No, I use AudioQuest Rocket 33 speaker cables. I do have some boxed Naim NACA5 cables (4m) and I tried them between my Nait XS3 and the Spendors, but could n’t really hear a difference. The NACA5 are so stiff and hard to manage that I decided to stick with the AudioQuest cables.

Nice cables, I also need new/better ones but in 2x5m length😀

The hobby never ends  One step at a time…
