Do any S1 pre-amp owners know how to check the status of the balance control?
Also, is there a way to set it back to “Centre” if inadvertently shifted off centre?
Lastly, one Google search suggests that balance is disabled on the S1 pre-amp yet the manual doesn’t say this.

I’ve seen no way to set balance on my S1 Pre to ‘nominal balanced’, but it may be possible somehow.
I have played with Balance to get my image detail even in my room - it is worth experimenting, as it makes a worthwhile difference. Bass power seems for some reason to be impacted as well as imaging.
After some considerable time always being drawn to the right side between my speakers, even though I thought it was set correctly, I did experiment and got good results and stuck with that setting.
So what I’m saying is try on music you know well try different settings and choose what performs best in your room, rather than presume a correct setting without experimenting.

To centre-balance your Naim NAC S1 Statement preamplifier, use the balance keys on your system remote control to adjust the channel until it automatically clicks and locks into the midpoint, which is confirmed when the volume indicator light flashes.
When you say it “clicks” does the actual remote give haptic feedback such as a vibration or something?
That’s what I read but it doesn’t seem to actually reflect what was happening…
I imagine you need to look at the volume control in the S1. It probably pauses at the mid setting. I’ve never done it but that’s how other Naim preamps work.
There’s no buzzing, just you should see the cylon-like light indicator flash when the balance is centred - and, in certain light, you may need to look closely for this.

I hadn’t realised that the light is on the front of the S1, not the volume knob on top.
It is pretty obvious now I know where to look!
I also now realise that it doubles as the volume indicator - useful as I previously had no idea where the volume was before hitting “play”.
