Yep not letting go of that
Good - great piece of gear that one, I enjoy mine greatly
I went down the same path a few years ago. I went from a full 500DR system (9 boxes and a full Fraim rack) to a Nova and have not looked back. Life is simpler. Congrats on your move.
I may be putting words in another’s mouth, but this points to a 222. Preamp and streamer but not power amp. They are jolly good.,
The Nova and Core is a nice system. I still have both, and it may well be my downsize system when the time comes. There is a lot to be said for simplicity as we age, that’s for sure.
Good luck, an entirely different experience.
Hope you get it on loan first or at least rights of return, before the Lux hifi sound bores you to sleep.
But you must have 7 boxes already! (Or don’t you have speakers?!)
His got boxes of boxes. ![]()
All of this. You can have a second system or a never ending desire to upgrade but there is just so much more fun to be had not having dedicated listening spaces, having music in one lovely place and as an occasionally social thing etc. and with a simple system.
I’m sure you’ll be really happy with the Nova and very soon will forget what the previous setup brought. As you say, it’s all about the enjoyment of music.
I think it’s wise that you made the decision without asking for Forum advice. It’s often the best way, and avoids twenty pages of posts telling you that it’s the wrong thing to do. It’s what’s right for you that matters.
That depends so much on the individual - at its extreme one person’s fun is another’s source of misery!
Trouble is, not everyone else does.
My wife isn’t keen on sitting down and listening to music at all, ever. She prefers to have sh*t telly on most of the time when sat at home. The main system is in the living room. I also work from home a lot and use a different room in the house to do so. So for me a second system in that other room enables her to watch her crappy TV shows and me to listen to music when I like to, if she’s in the house, including while working.
And then occasionally I can listen to my preferred system in a room which allows for a ‘better’ soundstage to be presented due to room dimensions and layout.
Sounds a v familiar situation to me Mr Wednesday
I’m in a similar position to you @30hertz Although my system is fine as it stands it consists of 7 Naim boxes. I have already heard a system that I believe is better and I’ve started the move towards it. This being a streaming pre-amp and active speakers. I.e. One box. I’m waiting for delivery of the speakers but the single box won’t be for another year. Although I will be auditioning the NSC222 with and without the NPX300 I suspect it will require the PSU to compete and my preference will be for one box only. If Naim bring something out to compete over the next year then that maybe a contender but as I enter my 60th year, I’m looking for simplicity and SQ. I can’t explain it any better.
I never thought about asking for advice tbh hope I have offended the members, it wasn’t like I was swapping cables or upgrading. It was a personal decision.
Ha! I’m sure this will attract lots of disapproval but I actually bought at a pretty good price purely based on reviews so will see how I get on with listening to it. Have to admit that the 282 is exciting, which is mostly a good thing but it definitely can be a bit too forward for me at times. I’m sure people will say that’s what the 252 is for, but that’s just more boxes…!
A Nova PE , one box . Oodles of power
I went through the same thought process as you and reduced box count . Still happily with Naim , but my seven box system went to three boxes, (one amp, one streamer and one CD player)
My amp is the wonderful Nait 50
My simplified system is just so much nicer to listen to than my 11 box 282/300 etc system was Pete. I hope you get back to just enjoying the music with your Nova.
Just out of interest, did you consider moving to a Linn DSM instead?![]()
@Jaybar I totally agree that Naim products sound better with PSU - I’ve owned a Flatcap with CD5 si and 150XS , HICAP with a 282 and an XPS with a CDX 2.
I think that the point that the OP was making is that Naim should have developed their products in such a way that this wasn’t necessary and that you should be able to get the enhanced performance without the additional box count.
I share his frustration.
