FWIW, I have NDX2/XPSDR with 552/300DR in Wimbledon. Here in Tasmania, we have ءND5XS2/ 82/HC/250. It may be that an ND5XS2 is the right answer here, but….
Trying those boxes in the big system before shipping showed that the naked NDX2 was better than the equally naked ND5XS2 when using the 82, but the difference was not worth paying for imho until we swapped out the 82 for 52 (or 552).
If I ever ship the spare LP12 to Tassie, then I will ship the 52 too (both are on loan atm). From what we heard last time, that will show up the ND5XS2, but adding an old nDAC will bring that up to NDX2 level (and of course the nDAC can be improved with a PS just as the NDX2 can).
Otoh, good though a ND5XS2/ 282 is, I’d be surprised if you found it clearly better than a 222 (even without PS). On the only occasion I have heard a 222, it was impressive.
Given it’s for a (very fine) second system, the 222 will help keep some control of box-count. For less money, however, you could probably hit eBay and swap 282 for a 252 and get an NDX2 ( or ND5XS2 and nDAC), perhaps with an XPS too.
