Securing lightweight tablette 10

Any kind of small vessel should do the trick. The difficulty I found with FS104s is getting the Atabites in without spilling them, as the openings at tops of the columns are small (and tiny on the outer columns). My solution was to wrap the tops in clear plastic to form a short open cylinder, and encourage the Atabites into the openings with a bicycle spoke. The spoke is also useful as a probe, to check the fill level.

Re Gaias vs spikes, I’ve not tried the Gaias, but most reports are very positive. If you have the patience, try one option for a while then swap to the other for a few weeks, but I suggest waiting at least a month until the drivers have properly loosened up and you’ve gotten used to the sound.

What a great idea! Perfect for checking the levels of atabites. Personally I spilled so many of them I gave up trying to be neat with them.

I used Atabites with Solidsteel stands, which only have a tiny little hole in the end, where the spikes fit, and getting them in using a homemade paper funnel took ages. Luckily I’d put a sheet underneath to catch escapees.

With my PMC stands it was much easier, as you can just tip them in to the front tube before screwing on the top plate. I use Custom Design inert filler rather than Atabites. I followed the usual advice and filled them about 2/3 full, and the sound wasn’t as good as the dem pair I’d borrowed. Then I read the instructions, which said to use 0.5L of filler in each stand. So out came the filler, and in went 0.5L, measured in our kitchen measuring jug. What a difference.

Off the back of some of the posts on here I bought some Herbies Fat Thin dots/pads to go under my Kef R3 metas.

Against all best practice I also took some spare attabytes and partially filled the front column of my speaker stands (they have much larger front one and two thinner ones) as well as installing the Herbies at same time.

Well I don’t know which or to what degree both are contributing to a ridiculous uptick in sound quality.

It’s stupid how many time you have to relearn past experiences. I know the difference decent stands can make to a speaker but didn’t want to spend the £650 for the dedicated stand for the R3 metas and therefore made do with something cheaper.

The two tweaks to them have made a massive improvement.

I would like to ask everyone what their impressions on the run in process to be like. On my first pair, i had a natural amount of bass, then after a few hours, the quantity of bass decreased, then it increased and became slightly boomy after that (around 25 hours). Then it was around that point I exchanged it for the second pair.

I think Proac mention around 75h, but I might be mis-remembering. Also, I wrote to Proac about their use of the links in development and testing. They confirmed they are voiced with the links.

My own conclusion was to single wire to the upper terminals for best results.

Enjoy!

I would like to ask, how loud is too loud for the tab 10? I dont want to risk overdriving it.

I am in a 4.3 x 2.8m room. Listening distance approx 1.8m from speakers. I listen to songs with some bass incuding pop songs from the 80s and modern pop songs, but nothing like EDM or those bass cannon type of rave songs.

I have a nait 50 at 9pm on the dial fed with a nd5xs2. Streaming tidal. My iphone volume app says average db of 72dB. Is this well within the capabilities of the tab 10?

Yes. I regularly peaked 80db.

Just got the atacama nexxus 600 hifi with custom top plate, filled with 3 tubs of atabites total. What a difference. The bass went from whimpy and not activated to a full response. You wouldnt even know it came from such small speakers. Next i will have to buy spike shoes as i am using the provided spikes. My isoacoustic gaias do not have suitable screws.

Any recommendations for spike shoes or do i get atacama HD S?

That sounds really positive, I’m so glad they work for you. It’s so good to hear a nice big sound from small speakers. The Atacama spike shoes will be fine. They are literally made to work with the stands.

Thank you! Just for fun let me share what the previous “stands” were: Isoacoustics LR155 on old wooden chairs.

Hmm. It reminds me of my first Naim setup, which sat on a pile of breeze blocks.

Hi,

Did you also fill the rear tubes/columns with atabites?

Thanks

Yes fill all the columns.

Its interesting to note that even filled with 2/3 atabites, the small tab 10s still manage to vibrate the stand all the way to the base.

Thanks.

I only fiiled 2/3 the front tubes but i feel the bass lack tightness. Not sure if it will be solved with more filling. I think the atacama spikes are too long, i remember Naim advising less spike length to have better bass.
