Seeking musical recommendations

Happy Christmas All, seeking recommendations for a particular type of music I’m finding strangely satisfying, strange because it’s a distance from my usual music. Think the film soundtrack as Harry Callaghan chases some gangster through the streets in 70s San Francisco - I guess Jazz/Funk kinda mix?

So far, been listening to The JBs, Herbie Hancock, Stereophonic Space Sound Unlimited and awaiting “Cobra” by Dale Jacobs.

Any recommendations of “must-haves” you feel I’d enjoy too? Thanks and Happy New Year.

Happy Christmas! The music for nearly all ‘Dirty Harry’ movies was composed by Lalo Schifrin, so you could search out the other film music he’s written. Try the themes from Mission Impossible, Enter the Dragon, Coogan’s Bluff and Cool Hand Luke? He’s Boris Claudio Schifrin. Besides film scores he wrote The New Continent for Dizzy Gillespie and worked on Buenos Aires Blues with Johnny Hodges.

If you look for jazz fusion with some funk, I would point out artists such as Jeff Lorber, Jazz Funk Soul, Brian Bromberg, Gerald Albright, Adam Hawley, Mike Stern, Eric Marienthal, Alexander Zonjic, Tom Kennedy, etc.

Let me know if these work for you!

If you like jazz funk from the debut 70’s, in the spirit of Hancock, I recommend :

  • Johnny Hammond Smith , Higher Ground
  • George Duke, I love the blues, she heard my cry.
  • Ramsey Lewis, Sun Goddess.
  • Grover Washington, Live at the Bijou
  • Jimmy Smith, Sit on it
  • Billy Cobham , spectrum, To The Women In My Life
Le Lis, Snoopy’s Search, Red Baron tracks

…………etc

Thanks @Stokie , @Blacknote, @frenchrooster for the suggestions.

Lalo Schifrin was spot on, just ordered a few CDs. The others were a bit too laid back for me at the moment but who knows going forwards.
