I make no apologies for this thread … this evening for no apparent reason a piece of music came to mind: Ernest Gold’s Exodus. As a child I was gripped by it (Paul Newman, Pat Boone et al), and as an adult I discovered Eddie Harris’ version. But it still tugs at the heart strings. It might be construed as nationalistic; that aside, it always brings a tear to my eye.
Many pieces of music do this: Sibelius’ Finlandia, and Vaughan Williams’ Lark ascending, to name but two. What others would you name?
