I run a couple of Raspberry Pi units, one of which (RooExtend) is powered by a Shanti LPS (5v 3A). I am thinking of using the spare lead (5v 1A) to power the second RPi (AirConnect).
Is this feasible/ desirable?
I have made enquiries of AI that suggest there should not be a problem … are there any dissenters?
What PI model, 5?
Any HATs or USB connected devices?
Will the second supply of 1A be enough for a second RPI?
(Cracking PSU though, mine powers the USBridgeSig+DigiOneSig combo streamer (MoOde Audio software)…..which then feeds the very wunnerful nDAC+XPS!
@IainO - nothing attached and running the lite OS.
@suzywong AI suggests the AirConnect should draw 700-800 mA if left running all the time.
You could give it a go.
The RPI5 draws 4-5W with standard OS at idle.
It might work, but not have much headroom. Once you ask it to do work (i.e. encode/decode/play audio) the PI might struggle and you’ll get under voltage warnings.
Forgot to say that they are both RPi 4s, but they won’t both be working at the same time.
Power requirements can be as low as 3W for an idle RPI4.
Definitely worth a trial.
Working well so far - pleased that the shanti is doing the hard work.
