Thanks James. Interesting! Martin’s opening sentence in the SQ section could have been written for (or by) me! Harsh Metallic treble. He was also using a NAP500 and says replacing the bus bars between the 3 sets of terminal with bare wires helped. I could try that today with some short sections of the Mogami. Worth a go!

I don’t think Is too small, i heard 50A at a friend home last week. His lounge is a long room, something like 10/11 m long and 4.5/5 m wide, divided by a partial partition wall. Ceiling Is very high, 4m at least. Loudspeakers are pretty much 1/1.5 m aft the partion, well toe in. There are also very high floor to ceiling cabinets either sides of the room full of vinyls and CDs.
Rest of the system Is a top spec LP 12 with Ekstatik and Linn preamp.
I can only It was mindblowing either with hi.res via Qobuz and more so with vinyl

Try them with the grills on , I was told (by the dealer) the 50’s grills were designed to stop sideways reflections to some extent . I keep the grills on mine and have them 145cm apart on the inside . My room is 4 m wide but quite long as it extends into the open kitchen .

Good luck

This is true for the grids but they are not grids on the 50 but of the fabric…

Even if it is divided his room makes double of mine… the 50 are more comfortable!

Probably, but they are firing down only by half the room with partial wall behind them. Btw, even a small standmount can give fantastic performance in a big room. I Remember his showroom in Pisa when he was the Linn/Naim distributor. They had on demo with Sondek/ittok/troika Nac62//HC/250 Kan 1 Such system had a fantastic scale and dynamics in a room that was probably 50+ m2

They look lovely I have to say. I’m part way down the process of a speaker change and my room is quite small 3.3m x 4.7m. We had a quick blast of some 50a’s (I prefer active) and they seemed to work although for a number of reasons I kept the 20a’s for an extended home trial and they were very good…

Next step is to try the 50a’s on an extended home trial

Good luck with experimenting

Mogami and keep them

And try to lift them up a bit (15 cm)

A brief update. Most of the day was lost to chores, but late on I finally got to install the Mogami 2972, running bare wires into the bass terminal pair on the speakers. A definite improvement to my ears. The speakers are still quite treble led, but the quality of that treble is much nicer and metallic nasties have been banished. Hopefully I’ll be able to get around to replacing the metal bus-bars with some Mogami links tomorrow or Monday.

I’m certainly still enjoying the listening that seems to bring great clarity to what was actually put on the tape, whilst also presenting it without a shred of romanticism.
The Shahinians bypass the producers control desk and make a very believable stab at bringing the performance venue directly into my listening room - at least when listening to a suitable acoustic recording ( mostly classical or jazz), but don’t particularly bother to recite in entirety a precise version of what was originally played. It’s wonderful, but the ATC’s tell me that the balance is wrong and that much of what actually happened has been omitted by the Shahinian presentation.

Conversely, the Shahinians tell me the ATC’s have had emotional bypass surgery!
The contrast between the two versions couldn’t be more extreme.

I’m fascinated listening to the ATC’s more truthful version of events after so many years of dreamy, emotive, goosebumpy bliss.
Which I prefer in the long run will be the question to answer!

Good description of the two approaches to sound reproduction. The romantic dreamy version would only last a short while for me, I would want to know everything that’s going on, but music is an emotive experience so can see others liking the Shahinian way. What is that beautiful wood finish called? They look stunning.

The dealer described them as Walnut, but I think most of us would call it Burr Walnut at least. I don’t know what ATC call it.

It’s a completely Matt finish that is quite 3D with pits in the grain. It is very lovely and a bit more subtle ‘in the flesh’ than it seems in the photo’s.

Such beautiful speakers. I wouldn’t care if they sounded horrible

I was just thinking that

ATC do have some of the most beautiful veneers in the business.

This one and some of the high gloss premium veneers are simply fine furniture level gorgeous.

Mine are just the std. Rosewood semi satin finish, but beautifully matched veneer.

And I’d try them a little bit further apart (if you can). That might relieve some of that hot treble

Interesting what kind of house construction does your house have - solid brick, plasterboard etc?

Where are you with your reflection on the sound of the ATC? Maybe try the active version that on my 40A doesn’t sound “cold” at all…

Hi @registlse . Yes, I’m thinking of trying the active if and when I can.

Just absolutely love these speakers, almost every track has you sit up and go wow haven’t heard that before. Have seen posts that say they need to be played loud to sing at volume level 25 these speakers just blow me away a very happy bunny
