Show us your headphones

I too have just bought a pair of Focal Celestee and bought a special cord at Custom Cans… to be used with a Nait 50 which is reputed to use the headphone output from a UnitiAtom Headphone amp

Spooky

Beware that the MEZE Empyream 2 have a different sound to the original ones. They are a brighter more detailed sound compared to the warm lush sound originals. You can pickup preloved Empyrean originals from £1500 now. You could even get a good deal on pre-loved Meze Elites for < £3000.

After that, ZMF Atrium or Verite. Both are in the £2500 region new. The ZMF headphones can be fine tuned with pad swaps. I have a few pairs of pads for my Atrium Closed to either improve soundstage, isolation or bass.

The ZMF atrium and meze Elites are both very comfortable. I can wear them for 7-8hrs while working!

Reposting from the “What was the last bit of gear you bought?” thread:

"This, the Yamaha YH-5000SE, was an impromptu purchase on my last day in Japan. I was walking around the Akiba strip with my patient wife being dragged into countless otaku shops when I stumbled upon E-Earphones which has all manner of headphones for sale and for demo. I made my way to the third floor, saw these available for a try and decided to give them a spin as I had considered originally picking up a pair but shelved the notion after reading about how polarising the sound is.

Well after a couple of tracks (fed by a Ferrum DAC and iFi amp) I was won over. Despite the gear being several rungs below my own system I was smitten by the palpable, meaty sound that just had me wanting to keep listening. The price was tempting, too tempting with the 10% tax removal and weak Yen versus the Aussie dollar, and after a detour to Yodobashi Camera to mull it over while buying a giant Evangelion model kit I caved and returned to purchase it.

It’s currently running in and needs looooooots of burn-in but already I’m loving the detail and the remarkable “out of the head” soundstage. It is quite a step up from my (recabled) Sennheiser HD-800s which sounds insubstantial and slightly artificial by comparison and shares elements with my Stax SR-009. However, what’s surprised me the most is how much it reminds me of my beloved Kudos Titan T505 stand mount speakers in the way it presents an absolutely cohesive sound that draws you into the music while stepping out of the way. And this is with the stock cable going through a basic QED extention cable. No doubt things will improve with a Lavricable Grand aftermarket cable like with my 800s.

So far, so good. The horror stories about these headphones are bizarre in hindsight although I can kind of see how they can be not too some people’s tastes as they are not as neutral as some might prefer.

Oh, and special mention must go to the included stand and the restrained but excellent packaging the headphones come with, even if hauling it back with me on the plane was a nerve-wracking experience."

So how do you stream to your headphone via de Nait 50? The Uniti Atom has it all integrated, and is cheaper. So that’s a more viable option, no?

I don’t I bought a long cord from a specialist cable manufacturer, very nicely made.

My recent purchase, a Hifiman HE1000 Sealth to replace a Focal Clear OG… Superb helmet that is now 1200 euros! No equivalent at this price…

I love the Hifiman 1000 series. Very happy owner of a 1000 SE. Not an easy headphone; needs very high quality streaming signal in order not to sound harsh. But if everything is right it is awesome. I upgraded the stock silver cable with Furutech connectors and it made a huge improvement.

I find the Stealth very balanced from low to high, not hard at all but yes, it must be a quality amp and source! I did not listen to the SE but it must be excellent too…

They are probably quite similar. I had the Arya before and was surprised how much better the 1000 is. But, to be fair, my source quality also improved.

New headphones thought I’d treat myself .
Not a very good picture I’ll try harder next time
Audeze lcd x .
Very very comfortable and not sounding to bad for new and I’m sure in a few weeks they will improve even more .

Hypsos

I kept in a closet the same Philips headset holder… It’s the holder of a Philips headset that I bought thirty years ago… Well the Hifiman is better!

Hifiman egg-shaped headphones should be considered the best value given the recent price dropped.

I like the Hi-Fi man headphones, not only good value but very comfortable and sound is superb. I preferred them to the usual suspects (focal, Sennheiser etc.)

Enjoy

And I thought I was crazy spending almost 4K on a headphone setup

In relative terms, everone on the forum is a bit crazy.

When it comes to eccentricity, I say just “own it”.

At the comfort level I find the Focal more comfortable… the pads of the HFM are a bit hard and the pressure on the head is stronger.

I use this instead. Custom made.
