That black record cabinet is a custom hand-built job from a carpenter, and cost more than all my Ikea Kallax combined. It’s really beautifully done. It matched my Naim Fraim perfectly (when I had it).

Interested in comments on the USM as well - especially anyone who has been able to compared the Betonaudioart AVP enhancement to the USM? Any comparison to a dedicated high end audio rack?

USM is a brand of modular furniture some of the members use for hi-fi and record storage. I like it very much as functional furniture for home etc. but I am wondering how much of a compromise is it compared to Naim rack or other brand hi-fi racks.

Hi, no comparison to dedicated hifi rack but I have a USM setup with a Betonart shelf for my Rega P6, picture somewhere in this thread. As I installed the Betonart shelf at the same time that my P6 arrived, it’s hard to say what sonic improvements are attributed to the shelf alone. But I can say that the shelf is well made, ordering process is smooth and cost is reasonable (just under €500 but you save about €100 on the USM shelf you don’t have to order). Oh and most information is in German which definitely adds to the engineering credibility.
I prefer USM over dedicated hifi furniture mostly for aesthetic reasons - we have several throughout the house - and flexibility to configure. I have 2 open compartments for LP’s, 1 compartment with a door and 2 CD drawers behind it and 1 compartment with a door and an open back with a shelf for my nDAC, cd player, streamer, phono stage etc. And I have my Supernait and Rega on top as only visible units, that’s how I prefer it. You also have a great colour range to choose from.

We (my wife and I) designed a wall unit with dedicated space for my hifi setup. Cd racks are placed in the drawers under the amplifiers. The speaker cabinets limit the size of the speakers, but with these Vivids I have nothing to complain soundwise. The platform on which the speakers are placed, can be rolled back into the cabinets. All the cables, switches, etc are hidden behind the unit.
Very happy with this solution, for 16 years already, except for the moments I needed to change something…. and I changed a lot in between time (blood, sweat 
, no tears 
).

Bit of a furniture shake-up… a couple of these lamp tables and a matching TV/media cabinet (the latter of which is due in a few weeks). Works perfectly as a system rack.

Great album. I saw Elbow play the Mouth of the Tyne festival last year in the grounds of the Priory at Tynemouth with the most stunning sunset taking place. At one point Guy told everyone to turn and look at the breathtaking spectacle taking place as they were performing. Bathed in a spectacular crepuscular light is not a bad way to see Elbow perform ‘A Day Like This’.
