There are some trends in hifi that we can see reflected here on the forum, such as reducing box count. With this perhaps comes a shift away from the dedicated hifi rack to using more traditional furniture.
Please show us what traditional furniture you are using to house your hifi if you are not using a dedicated hifi rack. Let’s see those sideboards, credenzas, storage units, coffee tables etc . . .
For this room, this purpose, we went on a journey and looked at lots of ideas. Our instinct was to find a nice piece of “mid century” furniture and adapt it to our needs. We also looked at what others had done before, @1GiantLeap@Adikt@crispyduck@JohnnyReggie@Klout10@Sandy8 , and others. Also, considered USM Modular, CLIC, IKEA Besta, lots of “ready made” products that might suit.
The way we use ours…
Two main spaces - on right side - to house up to 6 full width Naim boxes.
Also, space on the top surface of the cabinet too.
Open backs to allow for cable management and ventilation.
Centre ( open shelving ) : Naim NAC282, top surface ; Naim CD5 XS ; Naim ND5 XS2 ; Naim DAC
Right side ( closed door front ) : Naim SuperCap DR ; Naim NAPS555PS DR ; Spare shelf ( for possible future expansion).
The two smaller left side spaces were “sized” to store Vinyl records, CD’s on top shelf too. These same left side top shelfs could also accommodate a half size item, like a HiCap, or Phono amp, or server, or set top box, etc.
A little background information…
This custom furniture was supplied from “Pickawood”, ( as an alternative, also Tylko do same), who can supply any shape or size and colour, based on their various template solutions as a start point.
Our own start point - for design inspiration - was this “scandi inspired piece”, which wasn’t 100% perfect for our needs, so we recreated something similar with Pickawood.
Here is the final design - exact details confirmed prior to production - which was supplied and delivered as “flat pack” and assembled at home. Very nicely made and thoroughly recommend this firm.
For a long time I’ve made my system fit into the living environment. The last time I had a Target rack was in student digs in Oxford with Exposure pre/power.
