You have the best thread on the naim forum, judging by those black gloss nbl’s, I rekon there’s a chance you may have the best looking dbls out of all of us. Fantastic job so far, take your time and you will own a pair of speakers that are rather special.

Found out something I didnt know about dbls. On another thread, someone asked if the stock ATC SB75-375 15 inch bass unit was the same as the dbl with the wire mesh mod that naim do to the back of the driver. We sort of landed on the theory that it is the same, but its not. Spoke to atc about it and it turns out that they are different. The voice coils have different windings specific to naim. You can even see the word naim hand written on the cylinder that the coils are wound on.

That is interesting but probably puts to bed any idea about getting a pair of drivers for mine. I was considering it but in fairness they sound so good.

I am speculating that perhaps mine were a prototype pair from ATC for naim to try, who knows?

It has the hole in the back with filter material in it, where as they shipping model had that circle of pipe with the filter in.

Its silly becsuse they still make a dbl bass recone kit, and the basket IS identical to their 15 inch driver so they have everthing inhouse to remake the exact driver. Ive not asked the question and a pair would cost a bomb, but it would be good to have the part available. Your driver looks great, if it has a cone surrond that wont perish, well thats a big plus in my book cause the atc unit has to be redone every 10 to 15 years.

My assumption is the glorious crossover was built for it, so I might be best leaving well alone.
I have no proof but my guess is the foam surrounds are ‘looser’ to move back and forth. But I dont know for certain.

Try them with Naim Snaxo Active crossover sometime, that makes the DBL’s sound so absolutely fantastic and alive.

Yeah step back there a bit, brownie points are well used up on this project without mooting the idea of a 6 pack 135.

SBLs with an SJ PXO powered by a 500DR is something else, the musical replay is incredible.
Active is a big NO for me, too many boxes, wires etc… I do admire those who have gone down this path, but today there are alternatives.

There is still a Passive crossover between the Amp and Speaker, holding the performance down, have had Nap 500/500 DR passive, active with lesser amps sounds more alive and musical to me.
But I hear you, you don´t want the extra boxes.

Some great speakers on here - love the DBL images. Only ever seen/heard once many, many years ago and that first impression has lasted. My SBLs have gone into hibernation whilst I try out some SCM50s. The SBLs won’t be going anywhere though; just too good!

I love them. Mk2 Rosewood, s/n 173xxx so 2001 production year. I had just used my savings for a deposit on my first apartment and my car was in the garage after a breakdown, and then I saw these advertised on the same day. I cycled to work for 2 months.
