One lovely naim loudspeaker !
I always love your photo and system. Very nice indeed.
Beautiful new lamp! And I finally have a chance to see your Allaesā¦
Hereās a couple of pics of my old SL2s from 5 years ago. I tried them in two different rooms but sadly couldnāt get on with them so moved them on.
Iām still a fan of the design. Lovely cabinets.
Very retro. I had one of those lamps in the 80s which I got from a Salvation Army jumble sale.

Since some people I sharing photos of their previous speakers as well, here are my Ovators which have found a new home with a lovely gentleman on this parish.

A wall of naim
Did/do you also have ATC SCM7? If so how do they compare to the Allaes?
Appreciate they are obviously very different speakers but Iāve currently got Allaes and thinking of getting some ATC standmounts to tame some bass issues in my new 3.5m square room.
Yes I had ATC SCM7s. Very, very nice speakers. Clean, detailed, resolving but somehow unengaging. Ultimately, I felt they were compromised by the quality of my electronics. The solution was to find some speakers that matched, Naim Allaes being a great partner.
I donāt know if this matters to you but I found the quality of speech on radio broadcasts to be superb with SCM7s.
In replying, Iām mindful of a reply @Richard.Dane once gave here on the forum, where he recounted setting up a Naim system for a demo and finding it loose and bassy. I think there was a CD player a bit like mine. Substituting it with a CDX2 solved it. The better source brought back the control. Is your Rega Planar 3 good enough?
Itās also possible that small adjustments to positioning of your Allaes may tame the bass issues in your square room. For instance whichever speaker is closest to a side wall, pull it out slightly from the back wall when compared with the other. Maybe toe it in a tad.
(Throughout my reply, my assumption has been that your Allaesā drivers are correctly torqued and the suspensions are working properly. A forum search will help you if not.)
Hope it works out.
C.
Thanks, that is great info. The suspension of the Allaes seem fine and rock gently backwards when pushed, but not checked the torque settings. Yes, could look at the source, but also thinking amplifier as my Elex-r seems to be really thick with bass. Tried some Neat Motive SX2 in the room too which are much smaller than the Allaes and they produce some crazy strong bass with the Elex-r. I also purchased a little Rega IO for the office system and I actually think it is better with the Allaes than the Elex-r.
Would any of the Naim amps, be leaner than the Elex-r? I had a Nait 3, and a Nait XS years ago but also thought the bass was quite prominent with those.
I am not that surprised at your findings with the Io because my dealer speaks very highly of it. I think it has a different designer and possibly points to a new direction in Rega amplifiers.
We have both had the same experience with the Motive SX2s!
I ran my first pair of Allaes in this room with a Nait XS. It was a good match. But inevitably we hanker for more so I went to the pre-power which offers more control again.
Just Intros and NBLs to come then, by my reckoning⦠oh, and maybe Arivas.
God, they are pretty bloody sexy arenāt they?
