Thank you, I have considered it, but it’s too soon. Felix was just a kitten when he came to us, almost 9 years ago. Some of my happiest memories were listening to music with Felix in the garden, he wasn’t just a cat, it was the depth of the relationship and the trust he had in me that I would be there for him no matter what, and till his last breath, I was there for him.

I am relieved in a way that I was able to fulfill my unspoken promise to him, but I just don’t know if I am ready to go on another long journey with another cat.

My career isn’t at the same place, I am currently 54, and I am not sure I have it in me to wake up no matter what (which I did for Felix all his life) and take him to his garden at sunrise before work. Felix was a true Leo (born in August) personality, maybe a bit smaller in size compared to bigger cats, but a larger than life personality (very confident and bold) quite a tough act to follow for another cat. I do feed other cats in my office building and look after other cats who are in need, but just not bringing a cat home.

Right now I am not sure I am ready for this commitment.

Most of all I just feel so sad it ended this way, I had no idea blood clots in a cat (Saddle Thrombus) are fatal with so little time or so little or nothing that could have been done to save his life.

My sympathies are with you. Same here. It’s been over three weeks since Bindy the old Bin-Dog passed and today is the first day that I haven’t cried full tears. Also ran a few tunes, but it was hard.

Sorry for your loss, you gave Bindy a good life…

After brushing siesta…

Luna absolutely loves being brushed now, whereas before you’d need to be wearing mail and gauntlets…:gloves:

We had the same last year when we changed over the sofas and chairs. The cats were not happy.

We stored them in back garden temporarily before getting rid. They sat on them out there instead…

And when we moved them on, Jerry insisted on the sitting on the very spot on the patio where his chair had been sat outside for a short while! This lasted a few days until he forgot why he was sitting just there.

The boys are happily rescenting the chair and, after the cooler day yesterday, snoozed in the conservatory so have acclimatised to the new layout there already. Compared to my previous cats, they are much better about change.

We had fairly heavy rain last night, both came in to wake me up and let me know, two drenched petite panthers used my hand and duvet to dry themselves. As a result of the drenching, their fur is especially silky this morning.

It took me a very long while to get over losing Mrs Houdini , and I still miss her. I do hope in time you will find a new cat. Those long winter evenings … with a cat on your knee and a glass of red whilst watching the footie

I do hope that you find another feline companion - they are so worthwhile

That is what happened to Mrs Houdini , the younger vet didn’t want to put her down immediately but the older vet wanted to put her to sleep immediately .

Saddle Thrombus also took my Frieda a few months ago in February.
She began the day as usual; waking me up in the morning with a happy smile, having breakfast with her sisters before bounding out the door to do her daily patrol around the neighbourhood… she next appeared unusually late for dinnertime, came home dragging her legs and in obvious distress. She died about half an hour later just as the vet was starting to examine her.
All this with no warning at all, so sudden and unexpected.

A few months later Edda passed away at the vets (euthanasia) after a short illness due to her heart condition. Although there is grief of this double loss, there is solace of knowing they lived out their lifetimes of 13 years in relative happiness.

My empathy with @Analogmusic and the sudden loss of Felix is the relative young age of sudden demise which makes an acceptance and understanding far more difficult.
Four years ago i lost an 8 year old Morpheus who ‘vanished into the night’ never to be seen again, and never to know what happened. It’s an unfair situation.

All one can do is relish the happy memories of companionship, nothing can ever take that away, and be aware that the grief of loss is testimony to the love that was shared.

Grief is the price we pay for love. To quote the late HRH.

When a cat disappear without any clue is quite the worst scenario. Is possible that owls can prey a cat? I close inside mine After 8pm, sometimes he finds an escape route though

The only predators cats need to fear around here are humans.
Vets in the UK report 100s of incidents of cats being shot every year, mainly air rifle pellet, and this the tip of the iceberg.

However, i don’t wish to dwell on speculation, far too many scenarios…

Thanks for the empathy.

I am sorry for your losses, losing a cat without knowing what happened is extremely sad.

I know because Felix once ran away from home, for 2 days, and was found in a neighbors home garden, his nails had been cut by the vet a few days ago so he couldn’t climb the walls to come home. I know what I went thought in those 2 days, as it was summer heat and I was worried about his dehydration but we found him (he was very thirsty when he got home).

After that incident I purchased a GPS tracker from Tractive, and I stayed with him in the garden at all times when it was his time to go outside.
