Hi RackKit. I had a similar problem when I moved to an LP12. The only thing that really worked was wet cleaning my records. The RCM brings other benefits so I am still happy. I had a Roksan Xerxes before for 30 years. It still had this issue but much less than the Linn. Strange.
Hi Stuart. I think there was already some static there but it seemed worse after playing. Looks like I’ll have to finally invest in a RCM. Which model did you go for?
Gotta look after that needle!
Cheers, Rack.
I have the Project Mk2 thingy RackKit. Good vfm and probably all I will ever need.

Care to comment on the Hercules and its arrival?
Sure - although I fear I might not be overly helpful!
I’ve had the LP12 for just over a year and thus haven’t owned one with any other power supply. I had Peter Swain fit the Hercules when I purchased an ex-demo deck from him as I didn’t like the process for changing to 45rpm on the standard Majik ps. In that regard the Hercules is great as it makes it simply an extended press of a button. It seems to spin up to speed quickly, and I’ve not had any issues with it. But in terms of sonic improvements I’m afraid I don’t have the experience to really provide any decent insight unfortunately. I took solice in that Peter recommended it as the best option given at the time I didn’t want to spend the extra on a lingo.
Many thanks, its something on my radar too. Thx
Many thanks for the kind comment.
Many thanks Chag, I see you still have your Kans. I have my old Mk 2s and am thinking of setting them up in my study.
Count.d thanks for your kind comment.
Thanks Bart, and I hope you get your Sondek soon
Thought I’d throw my hat into the ring on the ‘Sondek with a story’. My mate Des, who I know from the pub, mentioned he had one in his loft, where it had resided for some 25 years. I had been harbouring the desire to scratch an itch with vinyl replay for some time, despite the best efforts of others to convince me not to do it!
My youthful foray into the format only took me to Dual CS505/2 level with a fairly modest LP collection before a life of wandering rendered the move to CD as essential.
Anyway, around 18 months after his initial revelation, Des mentioned he had taken the LP12 down from the loft and did I fancy having a look? Of course I did! It was a 1986 vintage, in black ash, with a black Ittok, a ruined Troika and a Lingo 1. The plinth was sound but tatty and the lid was scratched and faded but other than that Des assured me it had been well looked after and promptly made me an offer I couldn’t refuse!
Off to my dealer it went and I was reassured to find out that the arm bearings were spot on and that with a new cartridge I could be up and running fairly inexpensively. However, I wanted a more even contest against my digital front end so had the Cirkus kit, Kore and Krystal fitted and the Lingo serviced. Whilst the deck was stripped awaiting the parts, I decided to strip the plinth and liked the bare ash so much, I decided to stick with it. I also used a car headlight polishing kit to bring the lid to near enough new looking.
I loved the deck from day 1 and a year later, went Lingo 4. Last month, it was booked in for Radikal, AO PU7 and, because of Linn’s offer, free Karousel upgrade; this of course, is now all on hold. I am so glad I ignored all of the (well-meaning!) advice I was given, because I absolutely love the music my LP12 makes.
Cheers,
Ian
Looks lovely!
The finish in that plinth is beautiful! Great story.
Thanks
A very good looking Sondek there. I’ve never been keen on the black ash plinth but your stripped version is lovely.
I’ve never particularly liked the non-fluted black ash plinth - but your stripped plinth is lovely! Great idea, really makes the deck
Has Des been over to see and hear it?? Tell that part of the story, when available!
Hi Stevie,
Thank you; much appreciated! Well worth the moderate effort involved. Though I am by no means a carpenter, I was pretty chuffed with the result. Finished it off with a few coats of Danish Oil which really brought out the grain.
Cheers,
Ian
