Show us your Sondek

We cannot offer a rewire.

Given the very limited amount we can do, if your Aro is currently working I would recommend leaving it well alone!

Regards
Neil.

80’s fluted plinth with NAPSA, Cirkus, Kore, Ittok LVII and Hana SL

Not sure what wood it is but fell in love with the dark auburn color.

Looks like Walnut to me.

How are you finding the Hana, on my radar as a possible replacement for when my cart. needs replacing

Oh no… :frowning: :sob:

Thank for the tip that it may be Walnut.

I really like the Hana. My deck originally came with the Hana EH. When it was wearing I thought about the Dynavector 20X2 but my dealer recommended the SL because it’s a great match with the Ittok. Plus, you save 20% when you trade up with Hana. Stupid good for the money and very well balanced.

Afromosia, with a lot of wax polish. Looks just like mine.

Could well be Afromosia, my walnut has been mistaken for Afromosia in the past by dealer.
The grain looked like walnut to me. Whatever it is, looks and sounds great and is wood

I have really enjoyed looking at all the wonderful turntables on this thread. So here is a pic of my own very special LP12. It hasn’t got an exotic plinth or a super high spec, but it is special to me. Of course because of the huge musical pleasure it has provided, but also because of the memory of how I came to own it in the first place.

In spring 1979 I had saved up to buy my first proper HiFi, and after reading the reviews set off to Grahams with a friend and a couple of favourite LP’s to audition and probably purchase a Rega Planar 2 together with suitable amp (A&R A60) and speakers. I was impressed by the RP2, but then the salesman (Hamish) suggested we try the RP3 ,which was “only a little more” money! Sure enough after only a brief listen we were convinced of its superiority, but then Hamish said, “are you sure you don’t want to hear a Linn?” In a surprising act of financial responsibility for my younger days I said, “No don’t tempt me I will take the RP3.”

I loved my new system and for the next few years made no significant additions other than acquiring a Nakamichi cassette deck to make tapes for the car and friends. But, one of those friends owned an LP12 and I realised what I had been missing. Every time we visited Colin, I would bore my partner about how wonderful his set up sounded. Still, as high mortgage rates ate up our disposable income, I didn’t dare think about suggesting we buy one.

However, on my next birthday there was no sign of wrapped books, ties, records the usual birthday fare, instead there was a solitary envelope with a card which read “ see inside for a very odd birthday suggestion”. Completely unsuspected by me, my partner had enlisted my friend Colin and the local Bradford dealer and had struck a deal which involved trading in the RP3 together with her own speakers which were not being used, as part payment on a new LP12 with Akito arm and K5 cartridge, she and I would then pay the balance jointly. I was utterly amazed and thrilled, at the thoughtfulness and generosity, and it still ranks as the best birthday present ever.

Thirty years on, the LP12 (with some modest mods and careful attention from David at SO York) continues to provide huge enjoyment to us both.

Apologies if I have deviated from the thread at all, or if it sounds too much like an “Our Tune” request on Radio 2.

No apologies needed. It’s a great story and a very special Sondek indeed.

Enjoyed reading your story.

And a classic 80s Sondek.

Are you enjoying the Krystal?

When Hamish suggested the same to me, I did not have your fortitude! Lol…

Lovely Linn story btw!

I’m really impressed with your girlfriend and I’m glad to hear that you’ve been listening happily ever after!
