Gorgeous!
I’m very happy with ARO, and I hope that I will be happy with the new Dynavector TKR cartridge, Other than that I hope that it won’t be necessary to change anything for a bit.
One thing that I would have changed, if I had had the wit or a crystal ball to to so, would have been to buy a second ARO armtop, while they were still available, so that I could play around with different cartridges. In fact, I can’t imagine that that would have been terribly sensible (even if it were possible to adjust for cartridge weights, tracking weights, etc), so it’s rather a silly wish.
Hello, Ian, it’s kind of you to (continue to) ask after me (presuming, of course, that you were). I have been led to believe that I might escape my rat-hole soon, but no firm date has been given. I’ve had so many lies now, false threats and promises (including - sadly - from my own family, that I no longer believe a word that I hear.) I certainly wouldn’t be so silly as to quote a date here in written form.
I’ve now become well used to watching them speaking, and thinking to myself that they have to be lying, because I can see their lips move.
It’s a rather rare beast stiletto plinth on Eklipse, Aro keel with Aro base Carousel, one of the really few just Javelin tops with an Aro Finger lift, chord arm lead Rad 2 Superline/supercap with chord burndey oh and xv1t cart. Quite tricky to get it spot on.
So, Charlie (I hope that I may be so presumptuous) is that therefore a metal-bodied plinth? Are you able to discern if that makes (or even takes away) a noticeable difference compared to the wooden plinth that most of us have)?
I have also seen plinths (made in Manchester, perhaps’) made from a hollowed out piece of bamboo( I don’t even know if that’s big enough or solid enough to achieve).
If anyone is after a beautifully hand-crafted traditional wooden plinth made from just about any wood that you can imagine, I can recommend Solid Sounds in Yorkshire, who can can finish just about about any wood that you can imagine. (I have a lovely, dark nut-brown wood called Wenge, a non-endangered tropical rainforest timber.
Yes I am afraid it’s a cold all metal single piece plinth top plate. the wooden plinths are much nicer
But the Stiletto with Eklipse has that Maser tape feel to it! (I have one to! But with Ekos Se and Kandid (soon Ekstatik)).
For looks, I’d stick to wood - many beauties here.
For the best sq, the Stiletto, with its built-in top plate and Eklipse, is imho irresistibly better.
I don’t know how many fluted Stilettos were ever made, but several owners seem to be on here.
How different do they sound to each other??
The LP12 is all about musical flow, The Brinkmann is Majestic. The Brinkmann is amazing! The Lyra Atlas Lambda on the Brinkmann is better than Kandid but the gap may close when I get the Ekstatik. Main difference is also that the Brinkmann goes to the Ypsilon SUT/VPS100 riaa and then is digitilaized in the Systemhub. The Brinkmann has the amazing Nordost Odin 2+ tone arm cable…
Hence, very difficult to assess the differnece, love both.
The good thing, of course, is that no one knows, so we can each claim that our own is ‘simply miles better’ than anyone else’s and, unless you are mad enough to let anyone else see your own, no one will ever know.
(I feel that there’s an actress-and-bishop joke just dying to get out of there!)
I think the bamboo plinth you refer to is the Booplinth.
It is made from bamboo laminate, sold by Brian and Trevors of Manchester.
If I remember correctly it is made for them by Quadraspire in High Littleton near Bristol.
I think the Kandid is closer to the Atlas Lambda SL than the Ekstatik if you like the Lyra signature - I heard the Ekstatik several times at my my dealer and have preferred the Kandid each time. Actually my dealer prefers the Kandid as well.
I also have an Atlas Lambda SL on my DPS 3 with Schröder CB ebony and a Kandid on my LP12 Klimax/Aro/Keel/Urika. An upgrade to Karousel and Radikal2 closed the gap between my two tables.
I wonder how much longer the kandid will last given that there all these new Linn carts available. Do you have any idea?
I was asking, please remember that I had horrific bowel disease , and it affected my sleep patterns enormously .
My work suffered and I became very unfocused.
I want you to be back home, and the first thing I would do is enjoy my music, the second is change my will.
Best wishes
Ian
Hello, Ian, Sorry, I had forgotten - if I knew, that is, as I have found over the last year that being locked up in a place full of people whose brains don’t work is not very helpful to one’s own mental powers. Fortunately, I have the Times Crossword to keep my head fairly active.
I’ve been away from home for a bit over a year now, and I just want to get home to my own bed, my music and - most of all at the moment - to my lovely La Pavoni cappuccino machine.
Soon…
I did compare Kandid and Ekstatik and thought the Ekstatik was better and ordered one. Lyra and Kandid I guess is made by the same manufacturer (Scantech) while Ekstatik is made by EMT/Thales.
My apologies, Ian, I have just re-read your post. I hope that you’re not hoping that I’m actually competent to write a Will. I certainly wasn’t competent to do that when I gave up practice 30 years ago, and I doubt if that will ever change now. If you telephone The Law Society, they will gave you names of firms/people who will help. The number is 0207 242 1222. They are usually helpful, but will not recommend the firms or people.
I think I meant to say, when you get home, enjoy your coffee machine, your music and change your will…
I really feel for you .
best wishes
Ian
PS The last lawyer I met (which was last month) was wearing skin tight jeans in a punk style, she is also a KC, I said there’s a point of law here, fifteen seconds later she agreed with me and it’s in her submission bundle .
