Show us your Sondek

A quick random question for the experts. If you move to a Radikal PS from a Lingo 4, is it a straight swap out using the same fittings on the LP12, that is, just plug and play, so to speak?

I don’t think it’s a plug and play Mike but I may well be incorrect on that point but from what I saw Harry do on building up my LP12 40th there was a fair bit of fiddling around

Hi Mike
No
It’s a completely different system entirely.
Great upgrade though. :+1:

Thanks for clarifying that. The Linn dealer has changed here, so it’s not a relatively easy option to have any LP12 modifications carried out now anyway. I just wondered, if it was just changing the PS (like from XPS to 555 on a NDX2), which would be a quick DIY.

@Mike_S

Who is the Linn dealer now Mike?

The Linn web site shows 6 retailers in NZ selling their products.

Very nicely done

What’s the big white box @Bevo? Is it replacing the SN3 or the Nait50?

@Mike_S

No not replacing anything Mike

Harry sells the range of Advance Paris gear , it was just sitting on the second shelf

Not particularly well known and not at the level of our Naim products , but for the price evidently its quite OK

Some shots of Mrs Q’s recently upgraded Vintage ‘80’s deck.
New bits are, Trampolin 2 and Lingo 4 (just visible behind the core in pic 3) from my LP12 and a brand new Koil MC Cartridge.

Haven’t had much chance to listen yet, but what we heard on Friday was very impressive.

…and my mostly new deck, still with my beautiful Cherry plinth😊
Selekt original build with Kore, Karousel, Arko, Trampolin 2, but Krystal Cartridge and Radical 2 Power Supply.

Had more chance to listen to this one and my goodness it is definitely superior to the previous iteration with Rega Arm & Cartridge.

Having a Krystal myself, my favourite bit of it’s design is the slot on the top, between the headshell & cartridge, to slot the stylus guard in, making it impossible to fall off. Genius design & I don’t understand why more haven’t copied it.

Sure you will enjoy your new deck(s). I think it was you who recently said that the LP12 always sounded good, even in its most basic form, but every manufacturers upgrade improves it further.

I couldn’t agree more after 44 years of ownership. Your wallet appears to be the only limiting factor. I have no doubt that my original Sondek would not sound out of place in my system today although my current one sounds considerably better in most aspects.

I had wanted an LP12 since I was 18 years old.
Interestingly, Mrs Q’s deck was probably built around that time.
Design wise I love it and the various modifications and upgrades made available to it have only enhanced (for the most part) the product further.
We are most fortunate to have two such wonderful examples to enjoy our music collection on.
Your deck is a great spec too. I did consider holding out for an Ekos, but the Arko will be the end of my journey I think.
Happing listening😊

My Ekos is a mark 2 I believe. I purchased it new in about 1992/3 from memory. I also seem to recall it was about £900. Good as it is, I don’t think I would pay nearly £5,000 for one now! Not that it matters, but mine is black & I much prefer the look to the silver version. I assume, due to the modern materials, it can’t be manufactured in black.

My arm went back to Linn in 2019 for a service & complete rewire as, following the upgrade to Kore & Krystal, despite being thrilled with the results, it took 5 months for two sets of ‘golden ears’ (mine & my dealers) to notice that the magnificent sound emanating from it was mono! An internal arm wire had short circuited, presumably due to age. Unsurprisingly, it sounded even better on its return from Linn…

A couple of images of my LP12 :-
