Close up of the Krystal…
You’ve done job a great of keeping your Naim units isolated from each other but without taking up too much space. Nice work. [quote=“Adam.Zielinski, post:154, topic:7909, full:true”]
Here it is - Akurate + specs but wiht a Radical
I do like the oak plinth.

I’m with you Adam. For me, the new-gen plain Oak or original-gen fluted Afromosia are the timeless classic look of an LP12.
Here’s my oddball Oak plinth that almost looks like 2 pieces glued together diagonally, but is simply the way the grain is.
I was attracted by its Ziggy-ness and chose it from the Cymbiosis ex-dem line up in 2017.
Edit to add a (hopefully) better shot…
Thank you
Nice. That’s the same deck that I had in 1987. Fabulous memories of how it sounded into my DNM series 3 pre and Naim 250. You must be one of very few people to still have a Karma running intact. How have you managed to keep it going all these years?
Er, I have to ask ( and hope you won’t mind) how many are there ?
Are they the same LP 12 where you have changed the arm and the plinth?
Thx
PS some of them are stunners
Yes, in 2010 Peter allegedly took to the road and scoured the country for all the remaining Aros. Apparently he travelled horse & cart, for reasons I can only think for thoroughness and menace. 1,100 Aros were rumoured to be collected and still remain in Peter’s safe hands. 1,000 of them can each be seen on display, installed on various decks at the showroom. There were some photos of Peter on his travels 10 years ago, but they were quickly removed from the internet. Suggestions that he had based his appearance on this guy, were never proved, but highly likely.
And the US judge… it’s a 10!!
Understated elegance.
I used to have a black non- fluted which I sold some years ago.
If I had your plinth would not have sold it
David
Clay,
I could not have done it without a huge encouragement and time spent on me from good friends and my dealer. I don’t have a local Linn dealer so I was pretty much stuck even if it was something simple as adjusting an arm height on ARO or changing over cartridges.
I thought of ditching the deck and try to find something comparable but ultimately I like the sound of the Sondek enough to invest my time.
I’ve got the basics right but can’t claim the bounce is as good as an experienced person. I was lucky to have a sort of reference deck downstairs so I could compare. Mine bounce perfect no side way moves and every thing lines up except I still can’t get it to have a long decays of bounce like the one in the main room.
But at least I won’t be calling my friend in panic when an ARO arm pillar fell off the deck! lol.
A problem with ARO now is it needs to be serviced every now and then. My understanding is that a person who used to rewire ARO no longer is there. Maybe Richard can clear up but IIRC, Naim no longer be able to service the arm.
Why not a Linn arm?
This was 10 years ago. I waited like 5 years for this? It is a tiger maple died in black then high gloss lacquer.
!
Miyabi 47. The best cartridge I have ever owned and still chasing its ghost. Hopefully one day I get that magic back.
Hoping they can still at least rewire and put a fresh grounding paint, if necessary.
I don’t even know if anyone how knows the arm left over there.
I know they ran out of parts.
@KJC
The original Karma I owned a few years ago was heavily used, I just loved it’s musical presentation, it just worked so well in the system context, it was eventually part traded for a new Linn Klyde. That was a big disappointment it just wasn’t in the same league as the Karma, the more I listened to it the less I liked it, so sold it on and used a K9 as a stop gap, surprisingly I actually preferred it to the Klyde ! The plan was to source another Karma and get it rebuilt. I eventually found one in working order at a fair price and had it checked by a dealer who confirmed it was a low use original around 20% worn and suggested I try using it first before getting it rebuilt. So far it’s been fine, perhaps not quite 100% as good as the original I used, but a lot better than that Klyde.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions so far everyone… I hadn’t thought of different sub chassis at all. I guess I was thinking that my options were to upgrade to somewhere near a high spec mid 90s LP12 which is what I’d aspired to when I had an LP12 all those years ago. I foolishly sold my first one in around 2004 when values were on the floor! I’ve owned my current one for around 6 months. I think I’ll investigate a Karousel and a (used) Kore when the current madness ends. Possibly both are achievable for around the cost of a good early Ekos or an Aro…
Dig that groovy wood-chip wallpaper, Kev. Very retro!
One of my very early Sondeks with a Mayware Formula IV arm. Can’t remember the cartridge. Apologies for the photo.
Ha ha indeed @Debs. It was there when I moved in back in 1997. It’s painted in a yellow wash and it really works. The room is very bright and sunny (being on the second floor) and the yellow wallpaper makes it even brighter.
Later in the year, when all this is over, and if I have any money, I’ll try and get the room redecorated.
