The Roksan Sara is in fact a version of the Audio Origami Uniarm. John seems to have sold or licensed the design of the arm to Roksan. Peter Swain has been looking for a worthy replacement for the Aro and has been looking at a number of unipivots and seems to be advocating the Sara. He can apparently demo one vs the Aro. I’m quite keen on exploring the Sara as I’ve previously owned the Aro and loved it and have latterly been using a Nima and love it’s presentation. Last week I switched to an Ekos 1 and I’m not so sure I’m prepared to lose the glorious mid band typical of a unipivot. I do want more than the Nima can deliver though.

I’m going to persevere with the Ekos just now and get to know it but I don’t think I’m done on the tonearm search just yet.

Thanks a Paul. Very relevant for me as I would be swapping Nima for Sara. Good to hear it makes fir a worthwhile uplift in SQ.

Hi Fordy, yes, that’s exactly whereI’m coming from and have had the same conversation with Peter. I was all booked for that demo (along with a few other changes)before the lockdown got in the way. At some point I’ll get to hear it I hope !

It’s long enough to be used a mic boom too.

Boom boom. :rofl::rofl:

I wonder how the Sara would compare with my Artemiz? Intriguing!

Regards,

Lindsay

You are entirely correct, I misused the term “bass reflex,” which refers to ported design, not the sealed design of Villchur’s acoustic suspension. Whoops.

In one!

What is your opinion of the Sara? Did it replace something? Thanks

Apologies - seen the later comments now.

I feel a bit inadequate with just a Technics SL1210, Rega Rb250 (rewired) and a Goldring GX1042 cartridge…on a Mana base!
Still sounds good to my fifty-eight year old ears and only cost (second hand TT and Mana Table) £600!

Hi bob just recently bought p8 + apheta 3 same as you, currently using rega fono mc as shop did not have aria in stock, could you please tell if me if you demo both and is it worth the extra for the aria kind regards nigel.

Hi Nigel
Didn’t demo the Fono, I had long demo’s of the Naim Stageline, Trilogy and the Chord , all were really good but the Aria sounded fuller and warmer. I’ve had the set for several weeks now and it’s fabulous, I think I chose the right one. The Rega phono stages are designed along side their cartridges, so maybe a better balance than some.

Bought a Rega Fono earlier this year, it will be a short stay as I don’t think I am getting sufficient for my Clearaudio Emotion, I would say that your Rega P8 and Alpheta are also probably a little too good for the Fono.

Bit of a gamble but I opted for a DS2 Tube Amp in silver and walnut . I also wanted to support my dealer through this time, so relied on his recommendation .

My audio dealer are doing me a full refund for the fono mc as I was going to get the stageline but naim were closed, think I might go the full hog and get the aria cheers bob keep well nige.

Cheers Ian for info

Think you might be able to now get a Stageline , Naim emailed me saying that they were trying for (what I read to be ) a partial restart

It looks as if Rega have revamped the Aria Screenshot 2020-05-05 at 10.53.18

Whatever you choose, you have a fine turntable

Not sure if the ‘new’ Aria is different circuitry, or a new case. Need to read up on it.

I’ve had an Aria with my RP8/Apheta2 for about a year now. Found a 10 yr old Superline powered directly from 552 was a very nice improvement. It’s now off being re-capped, and we’re listening to the Aria again. Definitely enjoying the music. I’d not go below Aria for a P8/Apheta3. And surely you can find them used if need be.

You shouldn’t feel inadequate. Quite a few people here are very fond of the legendary SL 1210. Enjoy it. It’s a great deck!

Lovely listening space. Went through many 1210’s over the years! I saw a nice tweaked one that FunkFirm did that sounded rather nice. If you do get a chance the SL-1000R is worth a listen too, pretty special that one.

Hi Richard what cartridge are you using in your aro?
