Actually, I think that I got this very slightly wrong. Apparently some of the Transcriptor Hydraulic Reference turntables prior to 1973 were already being ‘assembled’ by Michell Engineering. After 1973, all Hydraulic Reference turntables were assembled and presumably also manufactured by Michell Engineering.
I also used mine for a number of years with a Shure V15/III, before switching to a very much better sounding (to my ears) Sonus Blue Label cartridge.
Speaking of Michells there’s a very nice looking Syncro up for sale on a well known auction site right now for £595 including the Michell OEM Rega 250 equivalent arm, that’s a steal.
I’m still using the Syncro I bought in 1986 albeit with a RB808 and Dynavector 20X2L and a Rega Aria phono and it both looks and sounds fantastic. My local Naim/Rega dealer reckons I’d need to go to the P10 in the Rega range to get a significant improvement.
And you can get it serviced by Michell as well. I nearly got one about 18 months, only problem was it was “buyer collects” and I was driving a lot into the west country to see a very poorly cousin
Interesting combination Chris. I too have a Koetsu Black Goldline but I hadn’t thought of trying it out in the RP10. Did you have a Rega MC in the RP10 before the Koetsu?
The combination works quite fine. I auditioned some different cartridges - also Rega Apheta - when I have bought my RP 10. But I loved the Koetsu most. The Rega Apheta was too cold to my ears. I love the full bodied sound of the Koetsu. I have added a 1mm spacer to lift the tonearm. This was a great step in sound quality.
My first naim and new to the forum. Thought I’d get the 1210’s set up in the spare room whilst in lockdown and needed an amp for the dynaudios.
Bought an old 5i on ebay and enjoying it so far.
Another exceedingly dodgy photo. P3-24//RB301 with a DL103 - surprisingly capable cartridge with performance to match or outclass more expensive ones for no money at all. A favourite.
I’ve never heard the original Apheta (1), but everything I read is that the 2, and now the 3, are MILES better. The reviews I read state specifically, ‘if you’ve only heard the original, do not let that influence you as to what the 2 (and 3) sounds like.’
